Description This is the process for my Daenerys picture.
Final version here: [link]

Steps:
1) I made a sketch referencing a photo of Emilia Clarke (the actress who plays Daenerys on Game of Thrones). I tweaked it to match my own drawing style and my mental image of Daenerys from the books. I didn't want it to look exactly like Clarke, I wanted it to look like Daenerys.

2) I painted everything in greyscale (except the eyes). This is the first time I've really painted something in this style, so I wanted to make sure that I got all of the shadows right.

3) I created a background using the Targaryen sigil. I added a few texture overlays to give it a nice "weathered" feel.

4) I added color on several layers above the original image.

5) I adjusted the contrast/levels and added colored highlights and shadows on top of everything else. I created a few new layers just for the eyes and worked on emphasizing them until I was satisfied.

6) I merged all the layers, duplicated it, and set the copy on Multiply to deepen the shadows just a little bit. I made a solid violet layer on top of everything and set it to Overlay to bring all the colors together. Then I put a large old paper texture on top of it all.
