Description Cats yowled in anger and dismay; the news had spread fast of Fogpelt’s death. Dawnstar had claimed innocence and only Ghostpaw knew that her words were truth. ShadowClan had attacked and the battle had gone on since dawn. Halfstar claimed that Fogpelt would be avenged, but most of ShadowClan knew it was just his excuse to finally attack ThunderClan. Ghostpaw hardly cared.

Halfstar had already lost a life in Dawnstar’s claws and the two leaders continued rolling in a tussle for dominance. Ghostpaw fought several cats with naught but a scratch as proof or his endeavors; ThunderClan cats were weak! He laughed aloud as he dashed around the marshy battlefield. The yowling of cats was music to his ears and glee at the fight filled him.

Suddenly a scream of dismay silenced them; every cat was still as the tossed their heads to the scene of a gruesome defeat… “I’ve… killed him…” Nightshine’s voice shook with agony and every cat ceased.

Dawnstar’s eyes grew large; Ghost witnessed as she pushed past Halfstar with no consideration for the brawny tom’s look of disgust. The ThunderClan leader hissed and snarled at any cat that was in her direct route to her son. Dunemask lay bleeding in front of Ghostpaw’s mentor. He was dead… Had Ghostpaw meant for this? Two sides of him clashed and he didn’t know what to feel. Any loyalty to his clan; to StarClan was being overshadowed with his selfishness. Now there was no Dunemask to take his Nightshine away. He smirked vindictively.

Dawnstar swatted Nightshine to the side and the beautiful black she-cat did nothing in response; she simply fell to the side in a state of dismay. Dawnstar’s blue gaze was filled with rage and sorrow and all Ghostpaw could do was drink in the sight with something like pleasure. It was a shame that the battle had to end this way, but also a perk.

“Dawnstar…” Nightshine whispered, “I didn’t mean—”

“I will have your life as payment, Nightshine, you just wait.” The ThunderClan leader said bluntly; Ghostpaw stepped forward, ready to defend his mate, but nothing came of Dawnstar’s threat as of yet, “I will take it from you as you have taken my son’s.”

“I loved him…” Nightshine blurted out for all to hear; cats of both clans gasped and hissed at her words. None of them would see her in the same way again. Some would later shun her for it, some would hate her, and some would simply ignore it and praise her for killing ShadowClan’s bane.

Dawnstar gestured for her clan-mates to take her son’s body back to camp; she turned to follow them while clearly still meaning to kill Nightshine at a later date. She glared at the young she-cat, “ShadowClan can not love.”

“Nightshine!” Ghostpaw called into the dusk mist; new-leaf was upon the marsh and it was still light out, even this late, “Nightshine, where are you?!” There was no answer, but a painful noise cut through the air to Ghostpaw’s ears in reply: sobbing. “Nightshine!” The white tom caught sight of her that instant; her black pelt obscured by shadows. He ran toward her but she lashed her tail.

“Stop!” she practically screamed the word; Ghostpaw halted and felt slightly hurt by her demand, but that’s when he saw it, “Don’t come closer, my love.” She crooned with a smile; the tears in her eyes glimmered in the fading light. In front of her was an adder; any closer and the snake would have struck him.

“Nightshine…” Ghostpaw’s voice quivered with fear that the snake would turn to her; she was very close to it and one wrong move would cause it to strike, “Step back… Just move slowly.” He knew he would have to fight the snake so that she could escape; he stepped forward again, never taking his eyes off of it.

“Stop,” Nightshine said in a warm voice, as if she had accepted her fate.

“No, Nightshine,” Ghostpaw said, “I will fight it and you can escape, okay?” he stepped forward again.”

“No, Ghostpaw,” her amber eyes echoed the love in her heart; he knew that she loved him, but not like Dunemask… His death had made the light fade from her and nothing the apprentice did could bring it back, “Don’t… Because I love you. Don’t.”

“But Nightshine… Please, just let me…” Ghostpaw’s voice cracked with his own tears now. “Nightshine, don’t… please don’t leave me…”

“There is always light, my love,” she smiled and stepped forward, “Remember that always.”

“I’m begging you! Don’t! Please!” Ghostpaw leaped forward, but his mentor was faster; the snake struck and Nightshine fell to the soft ground in a heartbeat. The white tom rushed to her side, “No! Nightshine no!” he stared at her amber pools with all of the love that no cat but she had ever shown him, but nothing could be done now; a bite from an adder was irreversible.

“It doesn’t… even hurt.” She assured him, but he knew from her clenched jaw that she was lying. He searched the trees with his green-grey gaze, but no help could be found… Nothing could be done anyway and Nightshine’s bright amber eyes began to glaze over… Her shine had faded to nothing.

“Nightshine…” Ghostpaw sobbed, “But…” his agonized words came out in only a whisper; it was all he could manage through his tears and tightening throat, “But, I love you… This can’t be… It can’t happen this way…” he buried his muzzle in her silky black pelt to feel her last bit of warmth, to sense her sweet scent one last time, to experience her last bit of love. He turned away and glared at the spot where the snake had been, it had long since fled the scene, now missing any poison that could protect it. “Fox-dung!” Ghostpaw cursed through his sorrow; anger filled ever last bit of him, “FOX-DUNG!!”
...
Ghost sobbed, his eyes shut tightly and his muzzle covered with huge black paws. It was over… He had witnessed it once more and now he knew; he was broken finally. It was his own wrong-doing, his own fault, his own cowardice, selfishness and cruelty. Sure, his father had hated him, but that was no excuse for what he had done in his past. He was a murderer, a thief, a liar… All of the horrible events that had transpired in his life were attributed to his own faults. He knew this now and it was time to break his old habits and start anew.

Niiiightshine!

...And poor Ghost. ;_;

More watercolor for you all! This one took longer than Obsession, and I think it shows. I like it more anyway. ^^'

I like the watercolor, it looks really cool! I'm not that good at painting. :/ Anyways I don't know why but the cat that is bowing reminds me of The Lion King... I don't know why XD

Yay! Another story with an amazing picture!
I still don't have the confidence to watercolour a cat :C
If you don't mind me asking, what type of paper/canvas do you use?

^-^
I really love using watercolor, I've found out. It just kind of happened suddenly, and it's great to use for big space pictures.
Actually, I do HAVE watercolor paper, but it has yet to be used. lol I've used the paper stright out of my sketchbook so far, and that can be bought at any old Wal-Mart.
