Michiru's got the most awesome angry looks. It's very scary, because she's not brash like Haruka, but rather very controlled - so when Michiru is angry, it means business. Case in point: [link]

Booya towards the Uncle! You should have known they'll speak english. Masa is no fool and she is a great single parent mom for all of them! Poor Michiru didn't had fun at France. What the hell, Uncle. You could of hired someone to take Michiru for sightseeing and still do your businesses work over there. You, sir, are not a very good father. ):< *inserts western theme song* Ooooooooh. It is on like Donkey Kong!

Usagi will always have first bun dibs as long as Haruka is around.

And Franken-daddy loses big points for not at least attempting the Eiffel Tower Tour.

Ten years in the future, Haruka and Michiru are laughing about this, and Usagi is still reaching over panel borders to get to food.

"My children understand English, Uncle."

Well, most of them, anyway. [link="[link] "]

Incidentally, I find it odd that two Japanese people could speak English so well at length. Though I can hardly fault you for

Because they're Japanese? Lots of people are bilingual. Lots of people are multilingual.

Tigron-C In reply to TenthCharm [2010-05-03 02:37:45 +0000 UTC]

True, but many Japanese are famously bad at speaking English. I think the common term for it is "Engrish."

But I don't really want to obsess over that. I really enjoy what you've written here, and this was only just a minor note here. I was just trying to imagine how the strip would sound and something just felt a little off.

BTW, while I was thinking about this language thing, I noticed that Michiru hasn't really said anything yet (other than a person's name, which is the same in any language), and I wonder if maybe she's one of those "children should be seen and not heard" types. That makes sense, given her proper demeanor.

If that's true, then perhaps there's more to her death glare than simple food loss - I wonder if maybe there's some repressed frustration or something. In a sense, she actually reminds me of a young Franziska von Karma - minus the whip of course.

The more I think about this, the more I want to learn about this situation from Michiru's point of view.

That reminds me of a joke a french friend of mine told me (and nearly got smacked for).

What do you call a person who speaks three languages? - trilingual

What do you call a person who speeks two languages? - bilingual

What do you call a person who speeks one language?

. . . American.

I'm American, and I speak multiple languages...
if you count only being able to swear at and insult people as speaking a language.

Gotta love how Usagi doesn't let silly little things like panel borders keep her from her meat bun!

Nice Glare-O-Death on Michiru in the last panel, too. Heh... wonder how she'd react if she could see about ten years into the future right now...

Now all Masa needs to do is adopt Hotaru and all the Outer Senshi can have dinner together. Assuming, of course, Haruka and Michiru don't kill one another first.

I don't think Hotaru's been born yet. XD

It's hard to tell with Hotaru given how she deaged and reaged. I've always assumed she was around Usagi's age or a year or two younger.

Usagi is so cute trying to get her dumpling, and Haruka is so protective of Usagi.

My french is a little rusty, but does it translate to "Midori would have loved to see the Eiffel Tower"?

(I was just wondering - do you allow people to make icons out of your comics? I would love to crop and colour Usagi for an lj icon, but I totally understand if you'd prefer not but I thought I'd ask )

Sorry for the really (REALLY) late reply, but you can go ahead and make that icon if you still want to. :>

My fave parts are Usagi actually LEANING OUT OF THE PANEL for that last bun, and the HaruMichi death stares at the end

StudentArtTeacher [2010-05-02 05:52:56 +0000 UTC]

Poor usagi . . . all she wants is her tasty treat!

But then, Michiru seemed to at least be somewhat interested in it too, and was denied!

Interesting update this time around. Even without real life, it seems like it had more time put into it. I like the calm back and forth between Michiru's father and Massa.

What did the french part at the end mean?

selfunderstared [2010-05-02 05:48:35 +0000 UTC]

I see PAIN the to thieves of the last bun written in Michiru's eyes.
I'm glad you're back on this and am looking forward to the next one, even if there's another minor delay.

I don't think Michiru was trying to be mean, Haruka-chan! She wasn't even paying attention.
