When "Frozen" first came out I saw the official "Disney Store" mugs online and I just HAD to have them... And that's when a "mug" obsession started. In the meantime, I got those original two mugs... and then I decided it was too bad that they only had Anna's winter gear and Elsa's ice-queen dress on them, when all of the other outfits in the movie were just as awesome. Which brings us to this drawing. I made it because I wanted to print it out on a mug, and also make the mug available for online purchase.

I tried to imitate the styles of Brittney Lee and Jin Kim (that the original concept art is drawn in), but I think I ended up with a mix of my own style and the style on the original mugs. Still, it was a fun exercise and I'm glad I managed to finish in time for the release of the new batch of 17" Limited Edition dolls. The "coronation" outfits on the mugs are supposed to match the dolls, while the "casual" outfits are inspired by "A Sister More Like Me": Elsa being a calm, intellectual type, ready to enjoy an afternoon reading a good book; with Anna being a more outdoorsy, visceral type, having fun with a couple of puppies.

Getting the clothes' patterns just right was probably the most difficult task. I had to screencap the first online releases of the movie, which were low-res, and I tried to make some sense of the designs with "A Sister More Like Me" and "The Art of Frozen". And then, a couple of days after I was finished with the designs and proud of my work... the hi-res video files came out on the Internet, as well as some more concept art with all or most of the outfits nicely lined and detailed... If I had just waited a few more days I wouldn't have had to wreck my brains with that stuff ). But oh well, at least I can now say I know them by heart
