Description Here it finally is, my model of the year 2012, the heinkel he 219 in 1/32 from Revell. I have to say that this is a milestone in model kit history(at least thats my opinion) and I gonna tell you why:
Backround: The begins of the Heinkel 219 date back to the early late30s early 40s. At first, Ernst Heinkels design was rejected, as it found few interest in the german luftwaffe. It wasnt until 1942 when heinkel privately finaciated hisproject and a first prototype was built that the 219 was first presented and flown in front of the eyes of luftwaffe officials. These were so impressed that they ordered further development. The 219 was planned only as a nightfighter(also there were plans to produce a combat plane for day strikes as well which wasnt produced as wars end came first. As so, the 219 was equipped with various variants of the famous Lichtenstein Sn-2 bord radar, these included the Variants Sn-2 as well as the FuG 220 with its caracteristic "Hirschgeweih" antennas. its combat debut was in 1943 when Werner Streib flew his 219 into combat and downed 5 Lancaster Bombers in one night, making him an ace although he crashed on his landing due to poor vision . The plane was destroyed but its crew survived.
From that one the 219 continued night fighter service and became the most advanced german nightfighter aircraft, if not the most advanced of the whole war.It packed a big amount of fire power: Up to 4 Mg 151/20 20mm machine guns in a gun pod under thefuselage, 2 M 151 /20 in the wing roots and optional 2 30mm mk 108 cannons as schräge musik(big calibred machine cannons mounted on the top fuselage, firing usually at an angle of 60degree upwards). Optional, some of the mg 151/20 were swapped with mk 108 cannons. Two Baimler Benz DB 603 engines provided the powerplant for the aircraft. At first the jumo 222 2000PS was planned but this engine was never produced due to constant problems. Some 219swere equipped with Jumo 213 engines.Top speed was 615km/H. Although the 219 did very well , it wasnt able to catch the later models of the mosquito bomber . Therefore, a radically lightened version the Heinkel 219 a6 was produced/converted in a small number. This version, equipped with the MW 50 whcih provided additional power, enabled the a 6 to reach 650 km/h. This version proofed effective against Mosquito and provided luftwaffe with an effective countermeasure against the mosquito. But only very few were produced. The 219 was produced in only a smallbumber, less than 300 were produced due to internal conflicts with the luftwafe and heinkel company. The most produced variant was the a-2. Late in the war the A-7 was produced in a small number. My model represents an A-7. The 219 is still engulfed in mysterys. oday one remains in the smithsonian institute. It isnt fully completed yet, the wingsarent finsihed but the fuselage can be seen already as well as the engins. In 2012 another one was recovered. This wont be restored(sadly).

The Model kit. This thing is a huge birs, even bigger than my ju 88 in the same scale. Its from Revell in 1/32 and costs 50 €(think of it, my ki 44 had a price of 54€!), so its quite a cheap price for one of the best kits I´ve ever seen
Detail: Detail is awesome. The cockpit is epic. It looks very realistic and the detail that was put into it is great. The main landin gear is another highlight in that kit and is also very well detailed. The clear parts are among the clearest I´ve ever seen. The detail is just awesome
*****
Fitting. The fitting was again a surprise: The parts are huge but fitted perfectly together: Wings fuselage fitted with no flaws. The antennas were difficutl to assemble but fitted perfectly as well.. In fact the fitting is better than in many 1/72 kits of revell
*****
Functions: It adopted many awesome functions from its flawed revell 1/72 counterpart which you can see ina comparison shot in my picture(I never reviewd this kit but I am going to do it some day): Props are movable although they are difficutl to make them movable(My were glued together). Front wheel is movable too and the flaps and rudders are movable too
*****
Decals: Typical revell quality, the decals are big and have an awesome quality as always. Just that what you exspect from Revell.
*****
Extrapoints. The kit looks awesome. What can you say, its my model kit of the year, the thing is just huge, it needs some space but it has an efficient price, awesome functions and excellent decals, it is awesome, just awesome. The quality of the kit is exquisit .
*****
Fazit: An awesome kit of an awesome plane. It is the only kit of the he 219 in that scale and there arent many 219 kits either on the market, there is one from revell in 1/72, a tamyia 1/48 and a dragon one. But I really doubt that any of the other one is as good as this one . This one is the ultimate he 219 kit and i can absolutely recommend it. I think that an beginner could assemble it if he is patient and careful. This is because of the awesome fitting and quality of the kit although I wouldnt start with this kit if you never build a kit before ( this kit just deserved to be built perfect).
Really, this kit is a highlight in any model kit collection, just its size makes it an eyecatcher.

Airbrush or handbrush painting? I have the same and I need to know how I should paint the blotches. Look realy awesome, how about a picture when it´s starting to get dark.

this was done with a mixtures of both, airbrushed the light grey and added the mouse grey spots with a normal brush cuz i didnt have an airbrush that was that fine to make these spots at that tiem(sth i´m really regret now because it looks good on the pics but in real, the spots dont look that good and when i have money and time i will do this model kit again)
in any case, do the spots with airbrush it looks a 100 % better than with brushes when done right of course

And would be the same painting random lines of RLM 74, then covering them with blue tack and painting on the sides of them?
This plane will guide in my construction. Thanks!

Absolutely terrific! That camo certainly looks like it took some time. Might I say that it was worth it!

It must be something. . ."Best model kit" and "Revell" in the same sentence is something I never read or hear. Ever.

It certainly looks like you did a helluva good job on it!

yes, this one is certainly one of the best ones I´ve ever assembled, the quality is comparable to a hasegawa or tamyia kit(no kiddin!)
it seems you are more familiar with the older revell kits, I assembled some of them and I agree that espeacially the old ones are not very good in fitting and detail. But the newer ones are quite good, revell has definetely improved a lot in the last decade. The 1/32 kits are espeacially good, they offer good detail and a perfect fitting(mostly).
And thanks for liking my he 219

Hehe I made a revell kit of this plane many years ago now 1:72 scale did a similar paint scheme too. Its such a fine and exotic looking plane. Good job!
