Description Frontierland may not be my most favorite part in all of Disneyland, but when the Mark Twain comes around the river bend, you just can't help but stare in awe. Nothing beats sitting and enjoying the view while eating breakfast at the Riverbelle Terrace, but the sunsets in the backdrop are a close second.

Had to paint this piece of Disney history, and I hope I did it some justice.

Acrylics and color pencil with water color crayon on 14x18 inch canvas.

Thank you! The water reflections seem to come easy, they look like they would be difficult, but it's not too hard to make.

The reflections are great, and the sunset and the wood. lol How do you get your lamps glows to be translucent like that?

Terrauh In reply to toriamason [2012-03-12 05:38:02 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! The lamp light I paint in a mix of orange and yellow acrylic paint, then I use watercolor crayon to make a small ring of color around the outside of the lamp, for this one yellow and white crayon. Once I add water with the paint brush, it gives it a glow as the color disperses. Then I go back and add some white color pencil to the middle to finish the lamp light effect.

Guess I should invest in some watercolor crayons then. haha Glows are something I've wanted to do really bad. I had a lamp that glows in my sketch for another Dracula painting, and of course a glow for the Tangled lamps. But I've been too terrified to do either. Afraid they'd turn out like big yellow globs or something. lol

white charcoal pencil works too, but I am starting to like the crayons even more than the charcoal.

haha Well I need to start experimenting with more stuff in general. Like I ridiculously need something for highlights on my drawings. I have two different paint pens. We picked up one just to try and it worked fairly well but it's thick and runny which isn't that good for trying to make tiny highlights. So we found a thinner one but it's terrible and is runny but doesn't even show any color, which sort of damages that part of my drawing. lol My father said maybe a white sharpie would work but we haven't found any. But I just bought a black nail pen that my father was trying out on paper and said that if I got the white one, it would probably work really well. lol
