Description This amazing little Tree Swallow, which I photographed at the Sandy Ridge Park near Cleveland, seemed unconcerned that I was standing just five feet away from it. It stayed on its perch for an entire minute.

These are some of the most amazing little guys!
The house where I grew up in had several mud nets they built and returned to every spring!!!!
Normally you don't get this close to them! It must have picked up on your vibes and felt the love so gave you an extra wing span too!

This Tree Swallow was indeed most accommodating in permitting me to get that close. I have not always been so lucky. Last summer I was actually buzzed by a tree swallow--and not just once, but six times in succession when I accidentally approached to within thirty feet of its nest. Maybe I was emitting bad vibes that day?

Or it was a girl swallow and she fell for you bird style!! HEHEHE!!!
I think is easier for me to believe this one than you bringing bad vibes into the level of loving beauty you show in your work!!! That's it "loving beauty of spirit"!!! That's what made the swallow fall for you!!!!

I am flattered by your theory, my dear friend. Although I can't claim to be free of bad vibes, I do appreciate natural beauty--as do you. Maybe it's just the case that if you hang out long enough with a camera, some swallow somewhere will take pity on you and pose.

He He He!!!
You are probably right! But you still had to inspire that pity on our little friend!!!!

Wow, it must be awesome to see a bird up close like that for so long. And it's stretching, so you got an awesome shot of its wing

Thanks for your kind comments. It always feels special to get close to birds, so I hope you get to hug one soon!

I saw two for the firs time recently. They both were fine with me being a few feet away from them and snapping pictures!

Swallows can be temperamental creatures--I was once buzzed by one, which make a kamikaze run straight at my head and only veered aside at the last possible moment. If its beak had been a machine gun, I would have been strafed into the next county! It buzzed me six times in succession before I discovered its nest about 30 feet away and then departed to let it nest in peace. But it's cool that you were able to get close to them as well. I hope you got some great pix!

Good information to know! I once had a Cananadian goose dive bomb me and I actually got a shot of it!
I had fun photographing the tree swallows but sadly few turned out. I blame the super bright sun that day [link]

Thanks! Swallows are just a bit larger than sparrows, and they have those beautiful iridescent colors that make photographers happy.
