Description

Lo and behold- what began as a trial test for Dyusha and his body type, ended up as another art tribute to Vitya (Tsoi).

Just like the APH fan fiction was a testing ground for noveling and character development practice, one could view these amateur tributes to Vitya as a sort of practice platform for trying out Punk and Street Art, as well practicing how to flesh out Dyusha’s phenotype in a highly stylized design.

For me, I feel my work can only be fluid and expressive if executed in moderate to extreme stylization. Given my rudimentary skill, realism seems crude and stilted in my hands.

The microphone wire, if you wondered, winds around the iconic figure of Vitya to shape the outline of a pair of angel wings- to symbolize, perhaps, his immortality his music embedded in the hearts and minds of the restless youth- and perhaps his own (relatively, when compared to the decadently deplorable debauchees of Western Rock) pure character.

This piece prompted me to delve into new grounds regarding skin tone and facial/body value with varying hues. Inspired by this particular photo .

Media: Ink, metallic markers, color makers, wax and chalk pastels.

Translation of text in art piece:

“If there is a body- there should be a spirit,

If there is darkness- there should be light.”

Taken from Song: “Song Without Words”

Simply wonderful! A great tribute, indeed!

Dang, I think I'll try getting a driver's license this summer so that I could visit Vitya's memorial at the 35th kilometer of the Sloka - Talsi highway here in Latvia. Buses don't go there directly; the nearest bus stop is about 5 kilometers away.

Thank you! Thanks so much taking time to compliment on this tribute to Vitya!

Really? You may be visiting Vitya's memorial? That would be a worthy incentive to obtain a driver's license.

I live in the USA, so it's much further distance for me. I dream of visiting his memorial in Latvia, and the Tsoi Wall in Moscow.

There is the official site of the memorial (unfortunately, only in Russian) as well: www.35km.lv/index2.html The truth is that they have recently renovated the monument (in 2014), and now it looks even more impressive: www.35km.lv/index.html ; it would be nice to see it for myself.

As well, there is a film (again, only in Russian, and without subtitles) about the latest song of the band "KINO" which came out in 2012, after almost 20 years since the recording of its demo version by Viktor Tsoi: www.youtube.com/watch?v=5oyhfo… The rest of the band finished the song as a gift for Vitya on his 50th birthday, and the whole project was partially coordinated by Vitya's son Alexander Tsoi.

This is a stunning work! I love the contrast between the black and the bright warm color scheme, and his dynamic pose! ^^ The varyfying warm hues and the shading on his flesh is beautiful; it gives out a nice dimensional volume. The reddish highlights in his hair tones very nicely with the black. This is definitely one of your strongest pieces.

Thank you! Thank you so much for commenting on this piece!

The contrast is meant to evoke an illuminated stage, with the figure as the focal point. Warm lighting on stage has a dazzling, sun-like glow. The pose proved quite a pleasant challenge to draw, and thank you so much for noticing the subtle shading on the flesh tone! It adds, as you pointed out, dimension. And since hair can be glossy and reflect light, it seemed logical to show his hair reflect the lighting.

Thank you so much again, for taking time to comment on this piece! It means so much!

Yay, more of Tsoi from you! THE OPEN SHIRT AGAIn. I KNOW IT IS YOUR OBSESSION *watches over you* Ah, so this is how Dyusha's body will be like. I like it a lot, the design. Very youthful indeed.

Great colours here. I love Tsoi's expression here. So passionate and it's clear he loves his music!

Yes! Definitely more Tsoi from yours truly! What an ideal muse- brimming with imagery and energy!

Well, one must admit, Vitya was endowed with an impressively lean and fit physique, and the open shirt certainly shows that.

Yes, for Dyusha's body type, it will be like this- extremely lean, somewhat lanky in the fit sense, and wiry. I believe it befits Dyusha, given his occupational demands and lifestyle.

Thanks! The colors contrast in a pop art manner. Thank you- his expression came to life- he just radiates intense passion.

Much better than the old, muscle bound hunk of Dyusha reminds me of a certain tag on Pinterest

Far much better than the DBZ-esque carnation of the old Dyusha! Also the leaner, slender frame  befits his equestrian lifestyle.

What a repulsive pinterest tag!

Thank you! Yes, the light is formed in the outline of a pair of angel wings to denote the spirituality of his lyrics and his nature.
Thank you! The hands surprisingly turned out well-drawn and well-proportioned!

Also, please forgive the tardy reply to your comment. I appreciate so much you take time to look at my artwork and post such thoughtful comments. It means so much. Thank you!
