In my country we call them "Carpinchos"
Its funny because some people who come to Uruguay for the first time think that they are everywhere. But they are only in the countryside hidden in wooded areas, and they only come out early in the morning a little time.
One time an American person asked my mother "When we will see a Capybara", he asked that in the middle of the city...

I tried one time, I was on a little vacation more in the north of Uruguay.
The receptionist said that they can only be seen at 4 in the morning, I wanted to go out and see, but I fell asleep.
I could only see like five of them one time but in captivity.
