Character portrait of Niobe Swan, one of the main characters from the faux-Japanese rpg my husband and I have been playing lately.I liked the plain sketch a lot, but it didn't scan well- there were a lot of dark patches in the background even though I had cleaned it up with a plastic eraser. So I added texture to the background and a bit of color. Sketch was done with your average ordinary 0.7 mechanical pencil.

She's not from a published game, it was just the character I created for my husband's homebrew story setting. We used to play all the time with no system, just the two of us.

wow, this is very cool! It looks awesome and the character design is so neat. Did you just make up the armor details and stuff in your mind or did you base it on a picture...or something?

Thanks! The overall design of some things were based off of an existing piece, but I designed most of the small details. The original design didn't include any of the wicker armor you would see on a traditional Samurai, like the chest, hip and upper arm plates, so the shape of those are based on historical armor while the ornaments are mine. The clothing patterns were based off of patterns found on origami paper.

scanner always seem to fuck a good image up, anyhew this came out nice despite that

Thanks! My scanner always does that to pencil works, and colored pencils are worse. Thinking up creative ways to disguise the scanner issues usually makes for a better finished product, though.

Thank you very much. It wasn't a video game, though... it was just a pencil and paper game my husband made up. Parts of the costume were inspired by an avatar I made on Gaia Online, but I dressed everything up and changed a lot of things.

I wanted to dress it up a little, and needed to hide the fact that I couldn't completely white out the background in some places without losing the lines.
