I just discovered this gem. War Journal is really a masterpiece of work from everyone involved. Even if just from the sheer emotion conveyed and evoked from the story and art.

One question on this particular page, though. So, did First Aid just take parts from all the Aerialbots and slap them together into Superion? If so, does that mean Superion is his own robot and can't separate into the individual robots anymore?

Ok, nevermind. I asked that question too soon. I needed to read the next page!

Well. That's one way to do it.

The look on First Aid's face in panel 5 makes me wanna cry. Don't worry fella, you're doin your best.

This was the page that I think we first decided on actually - I know it's definately the first page I drew other than the Teaser image, so it's from this page that the tone of the rest of the book was set!

But yeah, this is such an awesome reinterpretation of the combiner's origins - AND ONE THAT MAKES SENSE!

This page sorta harks back to TFTM where we see damaged bots and it's soooo heartbreaking. And because I know what happens later, it makes this page all the more powerful...

Robots in disguise with the power to surprise! I think that was the tagline to one of the TF toylines... And thanks for the compliment!

In case anyone ever asks the questions "did First Aid just have a spare giant head sitting around?" or "how did First Aid fashion a large head for Superion so quickly?", I tried to sneak in an answer on page 7.

Oh, and I love this page. Tom did an amazing job here and every other page he blessed with his skills.

I wish I'd clocked that during the colouring - I'd have done it darker grey! Such a cool little easter egg man!

This is an amazingly cool origin story for Superion. Wow, I did NOT see this coming. Freakin' awesome!

I'm actually not that big a fan of Combiners, but THIS is an awesome reason, perhaps the BEST reason EVER given, for a group of TFs to become Combiners. Just amazing!

Thanks, I always had problems with combiners (although I loved the toys) in that if the technology is there why wouldn't everyone do it? Why wouldn't Prime just merge with Magnus and a few others and just squash the Decepticons? If we were going to use them I wanted to show combining as a negative consequence, something that a rational person would not choose to do. I'm very pleased you liked the direction we chose!

Thanks. It was difinitely an idea that grabbed me in John-Pauls script straight away.
