You're probably right. I was going for an extremely shallow DOF, but maybe not this extreme. The wood grain does fall out of focus a lot more quickly than I might have liked. I think I was more preoccupied with finding the right angle than worrying about DOF, though.

I love this shot, it works so well. Eyes drawn straight to the bolt then lead along the lines of the grain in the timber to the slanted horizon. Brilliant composition.
