Morning arrived, and Thomas' crew came in to get ready for work. As they were getting him ready, Thomas asked them if there were any news about his siblings. Although he hasn't been with them for so long, especially since he was purchased by the NWR, he still kept touch with them by writing letters to them, and they do the same back. But he has been receiving letters from them less and less, and he was wondering why. His crew was silent for a moment, and then they told him that his siblings weren't lucky. Thomas wasn't sure what they meant, then he realized what they meant by that. All of his siblings have been withdrawn and scrapped. Thomas didn't want to believe that, but his crew told him that none of them survived into preservation and that he is now the last E2 of Britain. Thomas was devastated and broke into tears after hearing that. Percy and Toby were listening to the conversation, and they, too, were feeling sorry for the blue tank engine.
