Bert was a burly construction worker and a bit of a chauvinist. He felt that he worked harder than Marlene and enjoyed teasing her with the line ‘If it was easy, I’d have sent the wife’.

Eventually, Marlene got tired of the same old routine and dragged Bert to couples counseling at Gendertech. Now, Bert is working hard to find a new Easter dress, and Marlene is constructing a new career in the building trades.

Bert is more considerate these days and appreciates that Marlene makes a good living. Marlene gives Bert a generous housekeeping allowance, but she likes to tease that "If the job was easy, I'd have sent the husband."
