Constructed in England it always made 39 trips around the world crossing altogether 1.100.000 miles marine in peace mission. In 2006, one is moored in Dock III of Port Log, in the City of Buenos Aires, turned museum.

Although in 1893, already boats used for military naval education had existed in Argentina was lacked a modern ship military that had been conceived specifically for that aim. In that year the veteran captain ALTAR Martin Rivadavia elevated a project accompanied by planes to the General staff of Navy so that he equipped himself, in agreement with the most advanced technical of the time, to the Argentina Navy of a ship school that made honor to the same one. With some modifications the project was solved favorably in 1895 and the captain ALTAR Manuel Domecq Garci'a was designated to inspecting commander of the ship school to be constructed. The 14 of February of 1896, the government signed the respective contract with the company Laird Brothers, with shipyards in Birkenhead, Liverpool, England. The frigate was designed by Bevis engineer of this shipyard that used like model to the famous one and awarded to clipper HMS Clive of its responsibility. This boat had gained in three occasions the prize instituted to the winner of the regata England - Cabo de Buena Hope. The construction began immediately and in the month of July of 1896 the keel was placed. Thus it was born the frigate with his 85.5 ms of length, 13.32 of sleeve, a steel helmet covered until the waterline with theca wood and a masting composed by a mainmast of 54.3 ms of height, a pawl of 52 ms and one mizzen of 42.5 ms. As auxiliary propulsion had a steam engine of 1,800 horsepowers. The ship reached a total cost of 143,143 pounds sterling (1.3 million strong weights). It was hurled the 31 of August of 1897, being godmother in such opportunity Mrs. Ana CanΓ© DomΓnguez. The present name of President Sarmiento was dominated to him then the frigate: It was during his presidency that was authorized in 1872 the foundation of the first Navigation school, which in 1873 it happened to be denominated Military Naval school. The 19 of May of 1898, took place the tests engineering officers and navigation, 24 those of artillery and the 24 of June in the morning became angry the Argentine pavilion.

yeah, I love Minoltas. I wish they still made them. I started out in digital photography with a Konika Minolta Z3. I would have got the Minolta 7D, but they went belly up before I could buy one.

your work is beautiful

Vale oro! jaja!!!

Groxo!!

Those lighting conditions looked challenging. The fact that the masts are all in sunlight while the rest of the ship is in shadow makes them stand out so much more. That makes their reflections in the water nice too. They look like penciled scribbles! I also like how the dock wall perspective moves your eye up to the center. Very good shot!
