Description Just Another Maccish Screen Shot

Nothing much to say here, and no, I've no excuses as to why I'm
not being creative but instead contribute to the biggest problem
in this section........ other then, it's just so much fun.

Well, I'm open to any insults... as usual.

you can share it or is secret too??
by the way very nice desktop...
Will arrive the time that you could share details???

well, the code is a mess... as I wrote it
myself so I rather not. The best way to get
a look like this is to ask Thomas LΓΌbking to
include a "breadcrumb" like "hack" for kurlnavigator
...However, I doubt he will, as he is not
hellbent on cloning mac.

Thx, well, what details are u looking for?

i really like your lateral dock...
I'll ask to thomas. it's not cloning mac, it's only a style...
I want dolphin like this:

and bespin can do it!

My lateral dock?

It's cloning mac, good luck with Thomas tho!

Try and activate the "unite iconview" and
invert urlnavigator first.... those give a
very very very maccish look for starters

damnnn i feel in love with your desktoppppp excuse me can you share yours configs? like plasma theme bespin configurations (if this is bespin xD) and for curiosity it's difficult to use Gentoo? i wanna try it but i can't install it xD hahah because my notebook it's a crap xD hahaha. what's version of KDE are you use? because i read that in gentoo you need unmask some packages to get the lastest KDE etc etc

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

Th3R0b In reply to x11tete11x [2011-08-24 12:40:59 +0000 UTC]

Hehe glad u like it, it's a pretty standard mac clone tho.

It's bespin alright, I've just (re)written some painting
code for it to be more maccish, sure I can export the preset
Just copy the contents from here [link] into maccish.bespin,
then import and load in bespin config dialog.

It's not at all difficult to use Gentoo... just different,
and u gotta pretty much know what u are doing, make no
mistake, gentoo is no *bunto, nothing even remotely close
to it.

I'm using "stable" which atm of writing this is 4.7.0,
however, dolphin is version 1.99 that I cloned from git,
it has very nice animations but is highly incomplete.

To use a stable version of smth in Gentoo u usually don't
have to unmask anything, afaik, I've no unmasks atm for
kde.

Did I answer every question?

Oh! about plasma, that is not plasma.

now in my notebook with archlinux i use Compiz as StandAlone WM. I like KDE but in my notebook his performance it's really poor kwin runs between 18 and 28 FPS :S. My notebook has a Geforce 8200M, with Compiz FPS up to 127, when i not activate blur effect, but when i activate it FPS down to ~30 and ~60 (when i have no windows). But this reason i use Compiz as StandAlone, runs good and it's very useful, but i like KDE, in my desktop machine i have a partition with KDE to try configs and etc hahaha

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Th3R0b In reply to x11tete11x [2011-08-24 12:56:14 +0000 UTC]

That's weird, kwin has always been the most performant wm here.
I'm on a 8600gts... up until 4.7 I used xrender compositing, as
opengl was very slow (I couldn't really care less about fancy
effects make the windows fly across the screen) and the only
thing I really care about is the shadows anyways.

try playing around with the compositing settings in kwin and
make sure u have the latest nvidia drivers ofc.

I also used xcompmgr for a while when kwin 4.7 dropped shadow
plugin support and bespin didn't yet have built in shadows,
this is a fast solution also, and gives nice shadows also.

However, if u gotta have windows flying around the screen
fro no reason and then perhaps have them fold as an airplane
when u close them, then yeah, compiz is ur friend.

thx beautiful answer . i have two more questions .
1) how is not plasma? what is it? i think you use a theme like Fushigi or something
2) Did you try compiz 0.9.5?

i don't that xcompmgr can use in KDE , i used it when i intall openbox, but yeah i try to play with kwin settings

I said what my notebook it's a crap because few time ago when i compiling to install gentoo my notebook up to 127ΒΊ (veryyyy hot xD hahaha) and shutdown for security

Now i wanna try KDE but with the new Arch cd installer KDE not work (with CD you only install a console base system, then i install KDE but not work hahaha), when i fix it i try your configs

Well, it's not plasma, that's all I can say rly...
as it's not publicly released and I'm not allowed
to talk about it. sry.

I think I've tried compiz 0.9.5 but I'm not
100% sure, also, I've no need to try it as I'd miss
too many features that kwin has

Yes u can use xcompmgr in kde, just turn kwin compositing
off.

127 degrees? dude, ur laptop needs some serious vacuum
cleaning then :-|

Arch cd installer didn't work?why? Yeah I know, I've
tried arch from the minimal installer... It went very
smoothly and I don't recall having any problems at
all getting kde up on it try chakra: [link]

x11tete11x In reply to Th3R0b [2011-08-25 14:38:29 +0000 UTC]

sorry about plasma . thx for your answers haha i don't like chakra beacuse in chakra you can't install yaourt . Yeah arch CD installer works, but then, i install xorg, after that nvidia drivers (i try first with propietary drivers and then with nouveau). and then pacman -S kdebase-workspace kdebase-plasma kdebase-dolphin kdebase-konsole. i edit iniitab etc etc. KDM starts i put my user and password, and when is login just when KDE icon apperd (ultimate instance before start your desktop (the image like usplash after login). KDE Freeze it hahaha, and when y click it this "splashy" disappeard and show me a black screen and in up right corner show me a piece of default KDE wallpaper blurred hahahahha it's very strange but I do not take your time . and I'll fix it

thx for all. if you are a KDE developer sorry if some message my dislike you or uncomfortable for you (if you understand spanish i don't know how i say "incomodo" in English, google say that: incomodo ---> uncomfortable) sorry and thx for your answers and time

Th3R0b In reply to x11tete11x [2011-08-25 14:45:48 +0000 UTC]

U can install yaourt in chakra. chakra is
just arch + kdemod... and a installer.

Sounds really weird ur problem... sounds almost
more like a x11 problem then a kde problem.
Is weird anyways.

What? no, I'm not a kde developer, merely a
kde user

Why would some message discomfort me? it's not
like ur asking me how often I jerk off or
smth like that.

hahahaha you are the best hahahahaha, i told this for plasma haha for this comment hahaha thx, i will check X11 right now. In my father's machine i installed chakra but... chakra has his own repositories and pacman version is not the same what arch, for this yaourt don't work, however i like Arch because i toch all hahahaha when i have a lot of time again i try to install gentoo hahahah thx!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

Th3R0b In reply to x11tete11x [2011-08-25 17:47:31 +0000 UTC]

errrrrr X11 is the graphical windowing system
in which all the gui apps run...... inside x11
u then have a wm (compiz/kwin/metacity/ratpoison.....)

so the desktop is not X11, [link]
it's not released publicly... meaning, u cannot
check it out.

U can install yaourt in chakra... just follow
this [link]

If u have a slow computer, I would not recommend
gentoo.... unless u mind spending hours/days
compiling.

yeah i know what is it, when i say i check it now, thats equals to i do a fresh install hahahaha, my desktop machine: atlhon x2 4300 geforce 8600 GT 1GB 2Gb RAM . i tried it and same results, so, i sacrificed my lovely Compiz standalone in my notebook (Turion x2 4Gb RAM Geforce 8200M 512mb) . I erase all gnome packages, compiz and configuration files, then i install KDE and works thats very strange, my nootebook has a good hardware but is a HP. the cooler and exhaust is in a very bad place hahahaha . I don't know why in my desktop machine with a fresh install KDE don't work, and in my notebook deleting others DW and WM, then install KDE works hahahaha it's a mistery thx

Ur scrots btw always feature a lot of detail,
lots of gadgetary and stuff on the desktop

LaGaDesk In reply to Th3R0b [2011-08-24 06:01:03 +0000 UTC]

"pixelparanoid" yeah, that's it!

My last shots are nothing special. But I like the look and feel of my current desktops. There are some problems of my KDE machine. I need an application for playing audio cd because amarok don't like to play my disks. And plasma in KDE 4.7 is more instable as in 4.6. The next point is, that the K network manager is really crappy. My 3G stick works not reliably. Maybe it is an prob in Kubuntu. I'll install an other distribution next time but I know, that there are other problems with.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Th3R0b In reply to LaGaDesk [2011-08-24 12:44:28 +0000 UTC]

Hehe I don't like how most of the linux / *nix gui apps
don't follow the lego bricking system so u get widgets that
are not vertically aligned, that's eyeterror at a high lvl
if u ask me

It's weird everybody is always having probs with kde, ...when
I can barely get gnome to compile and even less to run :-|

Don't know about plasma tho, haven't used it for years

About network manager tho, it's the exactly same backend for
gnome and kde,,, don't see how it could possibly work differently
in kde/gnome. The frontend maybe, but that is just some small
tray app that u can easily use crossed (gnome one in kde and
vice versa).

If u want an easy install linux dist that installs u to
the desktop "without having to know anything" try chakra:
[link]

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

LaGaDesk In reply to Th3R0b [2011-08-26 12:47:30 +0000 UTC]

What apps do you mean?

I think, that's my problem because I'm too new in KDE. I'm sure this is not a prob of KDE.
I could need more time to test some things.

What app do you use to play simple audio disks, not mp3?

I've downloaded Chakra but it don't starts (live) on my machine at work. I'll try it this weekend at home. Thanks for the link!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Th3R0b In reply to LaGaDesk [2011-08-28 09:18:23 +0000 UTC]

Just apps in general, all widgets should be
aligned in a sort of grid. As the human eye
in general tends to get disturbed if there is
some kinda inconsistency. There are many laws
of gui design.

Yeah I guess it always takes a while to learn
new software no matter how easy to use it is.

I usually don't play cd's but if I do, then
I just use smplayer : [link] the only
gui player I use for playing video (I mostly
just launch mplayer from konsole).

Did u have any luck with chakra at home then?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

LaGaDesk In reply to Th3R0b [2011-08-29 13:15:40 +0000 UTC]

Ahh, understand!

I searched for a player for one of my clients. He needs it. I'll try smplayer. Thanks!

Today I downloaded the new Chakra release and it works fine from live disk. I'll install it next time on one of my test machines.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Th3R0b In reply to LaGaDesk [2011-08-29 13:54:48 +0000 UTC]

smplayer uses mplayer as backend so it's very powerful
and can play almost anything, u can also use vaapi and
vdpau with smplayer so it should fill all ur needs. I
understand u only need to play cd's so that should cause
no problems.

Oh! U have got a lot of computers at ur disposal it seems!
