Description Not sure what attracted her to me, or why she bothers sticking 'round a bitter old man. Maybe all the innocence is an act, and she plans to steal my soul. Maybe my soul is tainted and wretched enough to attract demons to it. I honestly wouldn't be surprised about the latter. But she's warmed to me, and I'm not in the mood to ward her away.

A day or two after we met I finally asked if she had a name.

"No." She said, wiping honey cake crumbs off her face. "...do you?"

I said I did.

"Oh. What is it?"

I told her.

She said it back to me slowly, going over the phonetic sounds. "That's a funny name."

I half-heartedly agreed. Not that there was anyone around to use it.

"Why not?" She cocked her head.

I told her it was a very long story. I'd rather not address the bitter years that had passed by. So I changed the subject. I asked her if demons get names.

"I dunno." She took another bite of the cake. "But I don't remember ever getting one. I'm just...me." Then she looked off into the wooded distance. "I'd like one though."

I blew into my pipe. My typical method of passing through empty moments.

"Do you know any good names?" She broke the silence.

I said I did. None that were funny like mine. I told her I wasn't best suited for naming her, though. She wasn't my property. She barely even knew me. But I quelled my reluctance. And then I paused, taking a second to scour what I hadn't forgotten.
And then...

Finally...

Claire.

"That's a pretty name." A smile spread across her face. "Where's it from?"

It was my mother's name. Just the sound of it brought back so many memories. Some sweeter than honey, others more like tar. My mother's golden-blonde hair came to mind. It was beautiful. Especially for a brownie. While my father, brother, and I were saddled in the colors of mud and ash, she was given a glowing mane of yellow, as vibrant and full of life as a fairy's.

Saying it again stung a bit. But the little demon girl took a liking to it. "Claire." She said it again. "I like it. Is that okay with you?"

I told her it was about what she felt. She shouldn't let anyone tell her who she had to be.

"Okay. That settles it then."

"My name is Claire."

Updated the design for the demon girl. Something more complex and functional. Also clothing because it was about to get very creepy.

The drawing is okay. The hands are fucked over entirely, but I do enjoy the expression on Claire's face. It's okay.

Your story writing is about the only thing I even bother to take the time to sit down and read anymore, so don't be so hard on yourself about the quality of it compared to others. It's fantastic, and I'm sure that there are plenty of other people who think so as well and are just too lazy to post about it.

So thank you.

Keep it up.

I guess I have a reluctance to take pride in my work because I don't trust my judgement. And I always keep in mind that there better artists to keep myself humbled and critical about everything I do.

But it's nice to hear that my work is enjoyed by someone. It really does mean a lot.

So thanks, mang. I definitely will.

I like it when you draw these two, they have potential for an interesting dynamic of some sort to go on between them, one you're starting to explore. I saw fully flesh it out, if you can .

They're not two characters I plan to squander, that's for sure.

Thanks for the feedback, mang.
