Description Skuld is the youngest of the Norns, or Norse fate Goddesses; with Her sisters Urd and Verdandi She spins the thread of destiny for Gods and humans alike.

Her name means 'Shall Be' with the implication of what must come to pass, and what needs to occur and is unavoidable; She is shown veiled, as here, to represent the unknowable, inescapable future.

While Urd and Verdandi are said to grant Gods and humans happy fortunes, Skuld has a reputation for cutting things short, or even unraveling Her sisters' work.

I put Her before the great ash-tree Yggdrasil, the Norse World Tree and center of things connecting all the Worlds, of the Gods, Giants, humans, Dwarves, and the Dead. With Her sisters She tends to Yggdrasil, keeping it watered and alive.
