The SG 552 is an assault rifle manufactured by Swiss Arms AG (formerly a division of Schweizerische Industrie Gesellschaft, now known as SIG Holding AG) in Switzerland. "SG" is an abbreviation for Sturmgewehr ("assault rifle"). The rifle is a shortened version of the SIG SG 550, which was based on the earlier 5.56×45mm NATO SIG SG 540. It was introduced in 1998, and discontinued in 2008.
