"Face it, Kodiak," the gray husky sneered, "you'll never be on the Mail Team. Even your old man couldn't help you win."

Kodi's lips curled, and his rust-red fur bristled. "I'm gonna be on the team one day, Saomik, whether you like it or not. And being the son of Balto doesn't give me any more advantages than you." He made sure to make that clear. "I've gotten to where I am today because I work hard."

Saomik let out a hearty laugh. "And just where have you gotten? Not on the Mail Team, that's for sure." His icy blue eyes glimmered menacingly. "Well, I gotta go make a mail run to White Mountain... not that you'd understand."

Meet my newest character, Saomik! I adopted him from and he was on Nome's Mail Team before Kodi ever was. And as you can see, he was also Kodi's bully... but really, he's all bark and no bite, no pun intended.

When a position on the Mail Team opened up, the dogs of Nome had a race to see who would take the spot, and Kodi and Saomik were both in the race. Kodi just barely lost to Saomik... and the gray husky didn't let Kodi forget it, especially after seeing how badly Kodi had wanted the job. Some might say he's a bit jealous that Kodi is directly related to the famous Balto, but Saomik would never admit it. It isn't until Saomik gets in an accident that costs him his front leg as well as his sled dog career that he finally gains respect for Kodi, after Kodi defends him from some bullies.
