Taking my shot at some fan transformations for Mario and Cappy, mostly because the capture mechanic IS pretty fun.

Poochy Mario can search for and find buried items, with the benefit of being impervious to hazards like poison fluids, lava, or spikes. Unfortunately, Poochy is a little too energized, so handling is difficult.

Tap-Tap Mario is slow, but packs a punch to anything that it bashes. It can roll down slopes to knock things apart or fall from heights to crush stuff with it's solid steel spikes.
