Description Name: Nia

Locomotive type: KUR ED1

Gender: Female

Year built: 1926

Put into SCR Service: 1970

Shed Allocation: Tidmouth Central

Work: Goods services on the Tidmouth Central-Crosby branch line

Bio: Vulcan Foundry built Nia in 1926 for the Great Railway Show. She was to become one of Kenya's' representatives in the shunting challenge. She spent years training and competing, trying to do right by her country. She did pretty well, even bringing in the first place a few times. However, in the '60s steam at The Great Railway Show was in decline and it was declared that 1968 would be the last year steam would be allowed to complete. This left a lot of engines without work and were in danger of being scrapped. Nia was left to sit on Display at a station near Nairobi. Nia was lonely and missed all of her friends, especially Kwaku. Fortunately for her, The Fat Controller was in Kenya visiting a good friend and when he saw Nia, he felt sorry for her and decided to purchase her for work on his railway. Nia was very grateful for the opportunity to work in real service and was excited at the prospect of living somewhere new. When she arrived on Sodor she was taken to Crovan's Gate to be repaired and get a repaint before being put into service. She was assigned to the Callandale branch line as a goods engine. She loves it there, there a farm and an animal park, and has made friends with the people and animals along the little line.

Personality: Nia is a clever and sassy tank engine. She's very resourceful and often comes up with crafty solutions on the fly. She's very kind and always greets her friends in a traditional manner. She can be quite sassy and has a quick wit about her. She's helpful too, always ready to help a friend in need. She's very adaptive and a quick learner, making her quite versatile. However, when she gets deep into a schedule she can become depressed. She doesn't like to do the same old thing every day and needs to experience some kind of change. This was especially true when she was a railway show competitor, she only stayed on her little line, shunting trucks all day long. She can also get quite sad during the wintertime, the sun is always covered and her spirits are always down. She also can experience some culture shock and does get a bit confused when it comes to certain traditions or celebrations. She's very vocal with her grievances, which can be a good thing but can annoy others, especially when she's in a rut. However, it doesn't hinder work ethic, proving that she truly is an asset to the railway.
