For the first year bonded, Snare essentially kept him under his control through fear and psychological torture, which took a huge toll on the poor boy. Since the symbiote didn't know language, it ordered its bidding to him through a multitude of ways. His go-to option would to just convey ideas to the boy through their bound minds. However, if it's something it knows Colton will refuse, it will either forcibly transform or manipulate his hormones and brain activity -- usually used to give Colton a temporary insatatiable cannibalistic bloodlust.
