Description Another image that illustrates Jazz and her life in The City. This one is out of sequence (should have been before the "Her New Home" image) and shows her first quarters when she moved away from her parents: A so-called "Cube". They are typically arranged in large dormitories. Each room has 16 cubes (8 on each side, stacked two high) and an attached sanitary/shower room and small food prep area. Jazz's cube is in the Aquilonia dormitory on sublevel 7 (i.e. 7 stories below street level). It is one of the better dormitories, reasonably clean and the cubes are fairly high quality with sound insulation, air conditioning and net access. The more basic cubes are little more than metal boxes. Jazz works two jobs as a temp and thus can afford the higher cost for a better cube and still save some money to eventually move into a more private place.

Posing in DAZ Studio, scene setup, lighting and rendering in Vue 8 Infinite.

The Cube model is a freebie from Team Dystopia (Moebius 87).

Cool concept. I've played around with DAZ models, but I've never build a whole concept out of it. I'm really inspired by this.

I love this series - me and some mates stayed in a capsule hotel for one night "Just for a laugh" when we went to Japan in 2000.

Ended up staying them for the rest of our time there! Saved a fortune in Hotel bills

Anyway love the whole "Jazz and her life in The City" images and I love that everyone in these pictures are just getting on with their lives

Well done

your images are really great renders...all round..lighting, expressions, scenery, characters...it's all believable...I guess that is what stuns me...it's so easy to go overboard with this 3D....great character composition & letting us view her

Wonderful render. I find it very interesting to learn more about this world you created. The different levels, and how it affects how a person lives and such. Looking forward to seeing more.

Thanks! I have some more ideas floating around my head... So there will be more images, but right now I am working on a Vue tutorial. Once that is done I'll go back to new images.

wow amazing detail and realness. how do you do it? Im just now learning and having a HARD time with DAZ. I normally do photomanips, doodles, and color line art but I have been wanting to learn 3d for a LONG time and I found DAZ but now Im SO confused. any tips or tricks or tutorials you can suggest that might help me would be MUCH appreciated. great render by the way I admire your work.

Don't worry, it takes some time to wrap ones head around a new program/work style. Be patient and work through some tutorials. DAZ Studio takes a bit of work to get the hang of, but once you figure it out it allows some pretty amazing stuff... I use Studio as the first step for most of my images. I set up and pose the figures in studio and then export them as Collada or .OBJ for use in Vue. I use it also to load and export props and scenes for my images. Basically, the first thing I do for an image is to prepare all the bits and pieces in Studio and export. Once that is done I switch to Vue 8 Infinite and do everything else there. I like the material options and lighting possibilities in Vue better than any other program (that doesn't mean that one can't do outstanding stuff in DS or Poser, just a personal preference).
In Vue I import all the figures and props, arrange them, modify the materials, set up atmosphere and lights and finally render (most of the time I go through multiple semi-final or partial renders before I do a large overnight render).

If you have any particular issues or questions about DAZ Studio, feel free to drop me a note and I will try to help.

Thank you. I only have DAZ 3 and GIMP for my work now but I will get there. I cant afford to buy stuff like models and poses and clothes but I work with what I can get for free. Im having a hard time now exporting stuff in to DAZ content. its all in ZIP files and when I extract the files to DAZ content it asks if I want to "merge" the runtimes... I was told NOT TO. but I dont know. I just skip it and I now have to go figure out if my stuff got put in the right spots.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

thd777 In reply to arowolf [2010-04-15 19:23:04 +0000 UTC]

Don't worry. Buying "stuff" isn't important to learn the ropes. With the available free base figures and the free content here and at DAZ and other places, you have more than enough things to play and learn. Most people get into a pretty bad "must have that and that and that..." habit when they start with this kind of 3D work (I must admit that includes myself when I started but in the past year I have only bought a few things).
Now regarding installing content. If you are on a Windows PC, merging runtimes is fine (don't do that on a Mac!). What I would recommend is to first unzip the new stuff into a temporary location and then move/merge it into the desired runtime (by moving the "runtime" folder into the same folder that contains the original runtime. The warning message is normal). It will be easier to manage your content later when you collect more if you decide on a sorting system from the beginning and set up separate runtimes for each category (for example People, animals, scenery and so on).

Cool place! I would love to live there if I didn't have so much furniture and hermit crab tanks and the other necessities of life. xD

The pose is great as well, makes it seem very natural and the passersby add to that feeling. Great composition.

Thanks for the comment and ! Yup, I like the concept (It was originally modeled as a cryogenic sleep chamber by Moebius87), but once the door is closed it's not for the claustrophobic...

Hermit crabs, eh? I have 5. But mine are fairly small and live in my reef aquarium. Yours are the land variety?

Mine are land hermit crabs; I have two smallish one and two medium/largeish ones. I love them lots. Hence the username.

I would love to have a marine aquarium with some hermit crabs and other fishes, but I'm a poor student and can't afford it. xD

thd777 In reply to lisemily [2010-04-14 01:54:41 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I figured that's were your username comes from. I like the land ones. Mine are 4 blue-legged and one zebra. Theya re only about the size of a quarter depending on what shell they wear... Some of them are quite vicious little buggers. If they want that shell it doesn't matter if it belongs to a snail at that time... I guess it's the aquarium version of foreclosure...
You are right, unfortunately reef aquaria are quite expensive to set up and maintain. The small reef probably costs me as much as my large amazon fresh water tank.
