Description Like a folding knife, just more badass

The trigger in the grip unfolds it, fast. Extra power for a slash.
Ofcouse you can use it folded aswell, just like a broadsword.
Unfolded you got a 80cm long, carbon fiber reinforced balde.

that looks cool, but I'm nearly 100% sure that is a CGI image.

the blade locking mechanism would probably break at or near the pivot for the upper blade part.

Found this while considering how to make my own folding or collapsing blade.

Has anyone come to making this yet? I would really like to know.

By the way, how much would that be in U.S. currency?

I have a question about this: how does it stays put together( which, for clearance sake, is an adjective, not a typo. this language weirds me out)?
The top blade portion, to be specific. it seems to me that every time it were to strike an object, it would simply pull back. So, how? Does it use magnetism, pressure, a sheave, a locking mechanism, a PIN?! it just, I'm a sucker for swords in general, and I appreciate fantasy designs( this one nearly gave a fangasm), but I have been watching too much Skallagrim, lindybeige and such lately, so I wonder about this.

Crap, I came up with this idea too! It even looks just like my concept art! (Though mine was a bit more medieval themed, the circle at the top is a bit bigger)

Great minds think alike much?

Maybe there is some real-life/movie/game thing that inspired us both?
Can't remember, it's been over 2 years

Yeah, Mine is for a game, I wanted to have a character that could swift and agile but NOT have a huge scabbard hanging off of his belt, haha.

... -_- okay, youve peaked my curiousity. ive been experimenting with many ideas in my head, and im starting up precision machining as well as an engineering degree... oh, not to mention sword smithing. no for sure things, but i really want to try and make this now. thank you for inspiring people, and for such an amazing idea <3 i pray i get to make one

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

The-5 In reply to redundantgrape [2011-07-24 21:41:57 +0000 UTC]

Cool, let me know if you manage to do it
It would be somehow possible with a torsion spring and two locks, one in the joint for the straight position and one near the grip for the folded position. The releasing mechanism will probably be the hardest part. Maybe you come up with an idea how to fold it without cutting your fingers

carsonlacroix In reply to The-5 [2010-10-11 14:13:36 +0000 UTC]

oh it would... spring activated too... i can make it, it would just cost much much more than a mere 1600 Quid and quite some time...

Maybe a knife would be more stath-ish... well, thats a sword.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

A piston lock inside the joint system
