Description Oil on Board.

This was the final in class assignment from my Intro to Painting class. We had to take a master's painting and use the color palette in our own painting. I chose Dali.

The title is a line from a short story by H.P. Lovecraft called "The Outsider", 1926. The scene is a depiction of one of the final scenes in the story, where a monster tries to go back to it's lair, only to find the entrance blocked. The two hills above the creature's right shoulder resemble breasts, which represent the mother he cannot remember. I have no clue what the rectangular cracks in the ground mean.

Tell me what you think!

And yet those rectangular cracks are what initially intrigued me most!

I love this.

I didn't think too much about what I was doing in the background. Who knows what they mean
