I have not read that book, no. I have looked it up, though, and judging from what I am reading about it, it seems that I may have seen a short interview with the author on television some time ago.

Ah, I have heard that one. But the pictured person is North Korean. Sometimes the uniforms can be hard to tell apart, especially with a hat like that.

I think the Norcs are the only people to still have the Red Star in their flag..Im trying to think of another..

However this pics it's on the design of Worker-Peasant Red Guards uniform (a paramilitary force) not the official KPA uniform. That has a pure red star on the hat (without marks or letter on the star).
But i'm unaware of Vietnam or China still has a paramilitary force with an all-red star on berret/hat.

There are also Algeria (reminescences of the previous socialist system), Zimbawe (covered by a national statue with bird), Djibouti (unrelated to socialism), and.... New Zealand ^^ Four red stars on NZ flag.
