Description "The Sentinel pair was half a kilometer away. One of the spheres heated and light flashed. Kelly took three sidesteps as the ground where she had been standing vaporized. Globules of molten rock spattered off her MJOLNIR armor's energy shield. She made an ancient and arcane gesture at the machine with one finger. Mark joined Holly and Kurt. "No way," he breathed."

I've always loved this scene and the other little stunts Kelly-087 does in the books. I took some liberties for the sake of presentation (the Sentinels are definitely closer than half a kilometer away) but overall I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

Even though a lot of recent material has Kelly wearing the EVA helmet, I went with the Ghosts of Onyx cover with her armor (I really like the design of the classic Mark V). Her look here is specifically modeled after one particular Combat Evolved-era concept piece. As for the Sentinels, a lot of fan art portrays the sphere as a lot bigger in proportion to the booms, but I tried to be at least somewhat accurate to the book's description of the spars being three meters long while the sphere is just quarter a meter. The spheres are still too big relative to the spars but I'll just say it's perspective.

I mean whatever reasons that made you "say no" on this one. I know it's an old piece so I'm fully aware it's flawed, but your comment left me at a loss as to what it is exactly that you're saying "no" to here.

Which book was that? Was it FoR or First Strike? Those are the only books I can think of with those two interacting in them

Halo First Strike; the ORIGINAL paperback release with Chief holding a Plasma Rifle. The rereleased versions with the Halo Wars style armor cut that scene :/

December 2010. There was apparently an earlier printing that had a few more errors in it -- does your copy have "Definitive Edition" on the cover?

aye; it would be nice if they covered events in First Strike, but I guess 343i has other plans. It was like my response when they made Fred-104 nothing more than a generic loadout in Halo 5; he needed to have his famous shoulder knives. Kelly could have been a bit faster too, but meh

XxAsk-GayfeatherxX In reply to ImaDoctor96 [2016-03-12 06:00:18 +0000 UTC]

Agreed. While The Package was one of my least favorite episodes, I did like the scene where he introduces them by way of a fatality that alao doubles as an eye scream. Cringe and interest is a strange combo.

ImaDoctor96 In reply to XxAsk-GayfeatherxX [2016-03-13 19:54:36 +0000 UTC]

It is straightforward and brutally precise, and really says volumes about Fred's character when standing from an author's viewpoint. It also gives a nod to First Strike when he takes a Brute down in hand to hand combat

XxAsk-GayfeatherxX In reply to ImaDoctor96 [2016-03-13 22:12:08 +0000 UTC]

I feel like the entire SPARTAN program was really stupid...just give Fred a suit of MJOLNIR and a bandolier of knives, and then add some sheathes pretty much anywhere he can reach. Boom. No more Insurrection. Of course when the Covenant came we'd be in trouble, but at least we wouldnyhave an Insurrection to worry about simultaneouslyΒ

Considering the disappointment that was thefight between Locke and Chief...heah, pretty much. Locke made so many mistakes, namely taking up space in one hand when he should have saved that for when he tired Chief out.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ImaDoctor96 In reply to XxAsk-GayfeatherxX [2016-03-15 00:00:34 +0000 UTC]

And the fireteam Osiris, aside from Locke, is unorganized and chaotic. Locke is played as some spec ops badass, but he did make too many critical errors that would have been avoided if he did even some research on his target

XxAsk-GayfeatherxX In reply to ImaDoctor96 [2016-03-15 01:45:00 +0000 UTC]

Oh yeah. At least they made it seem like he might have won...until he grabbed the Forced Armor Lock(e) and you knew he done f***ed up. But his biggest mistake is that he told the Master Chief Petty Officer SPARTAN-117 that Cortana was their problem now after Chief and Cortana saved the galaxy, along with all sentient life in it, together...not the brightest of Spooks are ya, Locke?

True. It'd have been funny though if Chief kicked Locke over the side ala 300 and Buck jumped to the edge and grabbed him, and when Locke saved him again and said "that's twice" Buck said "it's one!"

This is one of my absolute favorite "Kelly moments" from the books! ^_^
You did an excellent job with the armor detail, the way you colored the plating for a metallic effect is great, and I like how her shields are deflecting one of the pieces of debris. Your design for the sentinel is really interesting too. I never really got a clear picture of them in my head, but I really like how you portrayed it here. Overall awesome work! Thanks for sharing.

S-senpai... *blushes*

Thank you so much. I've always liked the MJOLNIR's metallic sheen in the first Halo and I like to try to replicate it in my portrayals of the Mark V. I've always had a relatively clear image of what the Sentinels look like, though it's not quite in line with the canon proportions.
