Description

Another ship design I did for the Sins of the Prophets mod a while ago. I originally designed this as an update of the ship design in Halo Legends' The Babysitter short, later established by 343i as the Diligence-class destroyer, which - while messy and varying from shot to shot - had some features I liked that suggested it was an older ship. There were some extensions around the aft that I interpreted as extensible heat radiators, which also fits that theme- presumably later designs got more advanced methods of dealing with massive amounts of heat from the fusion engines, but I like having these kinds of elements that suggest a technological progression. 343i later retconned the Diligence-class to look like this which I'm not a huge fan personally; not only because it discarded all the design characteristics of the original ship, but also because it just doesn't visually convey the sense of an earlier, less advanced era to me. Still, they requested that SotP change the class name to avoid confusion in case their design comes up more in search results- so the final version is called the Resolute-class.

Being of an older generation, the ship has no MAC gun by default. The new Encyclopedia description mentioned optional outrigger-based MAC gun modifications, so I included those in the design as well, even though I think they're a bit overkill for a ship not designed for them- especially the two MACs. I did want to make them look sturdier than the outriggers on the Encyclopedia design, though. Since the base design also features forward thrusters on the side pods, I wanted to incorporate those on the MAC pods as well, but they have to be angled and on both sides of the barrel - a maintenance nightmare, I'm sure. What's more, each pod also has a retro thruster to counter the MAC's recoil so that the ship doesn't lurch uncontrollably when one fires; it's probably why most UNSC ships have their ships aligned close to the spinal axis, as well as the main drives' axis of thrust.
