To learn more [link] The lotus symbolizes:

The Lotus is a Buddhist symbol.

According to the Lalitavistara, "the spirit of the best of men is spotless, like the lotus in the muddy water which does not adhere to it."

White Lotus (Skt. pundarika; Tib. pad ma dkar po): This represents the state of spiritual perfection and total mental purity (bodhi). It is associated with the White Tara and proclaims her perfect nature, a quality which is reinforced by the color of her body.

Pink Lotus (Skt. padma; Tib. pad ma dmar po): This the supreme lotus, generally reserved for the highest deity. Thus naturally it is associated with the Great Buddha himself.

Red Lotus (Skt. kamala; Tib: pad ma chu skyes): This signifies the original nature and purity of the heart (hrdya). It is the lotus of love, compassion, passion and all other qualities of the heart. It is the flower of Avalokiteshvara, the bodhisattva of compassion.

Blue Lotus (Skt. utpala; Tib. ut pa la): This is a symbol of the victory of the spirit over the senses, and signifies the wisdom of knowledge. Not surprisingly, it is the preferred flower of Manjushri, the bodhisattva of wisdom.

Yin and Yang originates from Taoism.

Eastern thought, yin and yang are the two opposing and complementary forces that make up all phenomena of life. Both proceed from the Supreme Ultimate and together they represent the process of the universe and all that is in it.

Buddhism and Taoism are Two of the most important schools of thought in my life at the moment.

Hey

So I have done years of research and this is exactly what I've been looking for in regards to a tattoo.... I would not use the same exact print, but would I be able to use something similar? I would even give you partial/full credit.

Let me know asap !!! You're art is awesome

People seem to forget the "complementary" part of the definition of yin and yang. There are two kinds of opposites: Opposites of being, represented by the presence of something and a word describing its absence (such as light/darkness, heat/cold, sound/silence, etc.); and complementary opposites, represented by two things or ideas that are completely different, but neither can exist without the other (such as male/female, law/grace, etc.).

I'm not Buddhist, but I'm aware that anyone, regardless of religion, can have great spiritual truths revealed to them if they're willing to listen, and I think the concept thus christened yin yang might be one of them. What the people to whom said truths are revealed then do with those truths is another matter. Some distort them. Others write them down and forget them. And still others take them and put them into practice, and as a result are totally changed from the inside out, molded into the person they were made to be. The idea that yin and yang represent opposites in general--and that presence cannot exist without absence (or that absence exists unto itself at all)--is one such distortion.

i love the symbolism and meaning behind lotuses and yin yangs. i have two tattoos relating to yin and yang (i have a dragon representing yang( the white side) and my friend has yin). we got them to represent each other, cuz im more of a yin person. and i have the complete symbol on the back of my neck with orbs around one side (which i also have a slight obsession with). i dont have a lotus tattoo yet, but i think i will soon.
just in case you couldn't tell i LOVE your design
hehe ^.^

If anyone ended up getting this, where did you get it? And were there pics??

Promise I will post a pic if I get this! If it happens it'll be before Christmas

hey, strange question (although this might not top the tattoo questions on a scale of weirdness) but i'm making a manga called "Byakuren" (c) me!. In Japanese Byakuren means white lotus and when i typed it in on DA i found this and i was like this>>> . So then i went>>> HALLELUJAH!!! cos i'd found a great piece to feture as my logo for Byakuren, so basically im asking permission to use it PWETTY PLEASE WITH A CHERRY ON TOP!
But the sad thing may be that i might change my mind later (damn me!) i do it ALL the time and i hate it i'm only saying this as a warnign that i might change my mind but i'm not saying for DEFINATE i will i'm just asking permission for now, u never know it may end up still on the cover at the end YAY!
