Description A part of the Anargo Sector project that is a couple of years old now. These designs were made in collaboration with 5 other fellow fans. I drew heavily from the biological and scientific backgrounds of Tynesh and Kage and had the work edited to blend correctly with W40K canon/fluff by CELS, DAZO and Malika.

I will add a Gene Seed every month if I can with the next one coming out in October.

If anyone has any second opinions concerning the science/fluff/canon of my art Great! Keep it to yourself! Everyone of these designs has been rung through the kind of scrutiny that would cause most people to jump out a window and frankly I don't care to hear anything further on it.

If you have a problem with the way I drew something then draw it yourself. Post criticizing the canon will be removed. Post criticizing the art are fine.

2. "CELS" (W40k Fan) (Fluff historian/ W40K Guru)

4. "Dazo" (W40k Fan) (Fluff Editor)
5. "Malika" (W40k Fan) (Fluff Researcher/Resource Collector)

Reading this, it makes more sense than whats in the codex, and the Index Astartes articles in White Dwarf. And we get to see what the Black Carapace looks like. I know its in the name, but a visuall really helps. Keep em coming.

I have one question
As you know, movements of the ribs support the lung ventilation.
But how Marines breath when they don't have ribs? O.o
Only by midriff??

I am just the artist brother, you would have to consult my doctor friend that helped to ensure a sense of accuracy with all of this.

Im long veteran and lover of wh40k and its poster heroes Adeptus Astartes, Im also GM in deathwatch RPG campaign, and U sir after all my years in wh40k hobby have amazed me. Your work is just what i needed for my campaign and my hobby, its truly amazing. (i would make AA a bit wider by shoulders, but thats just one little unimportant thing) I will watch your work very closely now.
Thank You again.

The Black Carapace is implanted under the Space Marines skin.

Oh my gawd, your story's so stewpit!

Sorry, had to say that. ^^
Jokes aside, it's great somebody finally tries to explain the implants. I've never been entirely sure about how such a carapace would look, and to be honest, I'm not totally sure about the phase 3 image; but the neural connections certainly do make sense.
Maybe the word "carapace" is something of a bad idea; to my mind, it's, just as you said, rather a neural network and not a carapace in the traditional sense.
Thanks for sharing!

One thing I noticed is taht the shoulders of this Space Marine need to be wider. Other than that, these gene seed works are fantastic.

Love it dude! Your series are a missing chapter in Space Marine imaginary. Been collecting White Dwarf since nr. 80 and not once have I stumbled over such illustrating photographs as yours, as a supplement to the many small stories found in the magazine. Thanks for sharing this!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

The-First-Magelord In reply to RadioSlave [2011-10-01 14:32:21 +0000 UTC]

Exactly the reason I am drawing these. There is a serious gap there. People don't realize that it is not just the armor that makes a marine.

Not that this seems to be canon anymore, but from descriptions in the tyranid codices I had assumed the black carapace was formed from a fused rib-cage, but then I've been out of the loop for a while.

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

The-First-Magelord In reply to Desmodeus [2011-10-01 04:11:10 +0000 UTC]

The fused rib-cage is a whole other Gene-seed. It's coming later as well.

I've always seen it as a chitinous growth that appears just underneath the epidermis of the skin, creat a darkened, purple-black colouring on certain areas of the chest. It is also plated, and not like a normal sheet of body armour in appearance or strength.

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

SkarmoryThePG [2011-09-30 21:05:12 +0000 UTC]

Hmm. An interesting take on it. I'd have thought it would cover more than just the chest area, personally.
