I have a question: is it canon that there were murder sprees done by hyenas, and that's why they we banished? Or is that merely fan theory? So many stories are centered around this so I'm curious.

Its not cannon as far as I know. I mean people could come to those conclusions since Zazu refers to them as poachers. I think most creators like the theory because it makes the most sense. Hyenas aren't actually super pivotal in my plot though.
