How much DEF does that thing provide, anyway? Must be way way more than that puny ribbon. No wonder Frisk hasn't died.

They also didn't get stabed. That helps with not dying.
For the DEF, I'd say, 12-13 maybe, just a bit more than the apron.
With the added bonus of being able to disguise yourself as a lamp.
