Lori stepped into the pod-like chamber nervously. "Are you sure this is safe?"

"Of course," replied Marissa. "People have been using it all day. It just helps you shed fat quicker, that's all."

"Okay, I'll try it, I guess. I need to look good for my interview." Lori nibbled on a fingernail worriedly as the door clamped shut. The device's barely perceptible hum grew louder as it charged up to full power. The control display suggested several settings: low for frequent users, medium for occasional, and high for first-timers. She selected the latter and waited while the lights grew steadily brighter.

Suddenly something went wrong. The sound changed from a faint buzz to a horrible crackling as sparks and energy arcs flashed across the power board. White smoke gushed out and an ozone smell filled the air. Then, as Lori cringed and ducked down in horror, a bright flash filled the chamber, before everything went dark.

"Lori? Are you okay?" called out Marissa's voice, now strangely deeper, sounding like it came from overhead for some reason. "There was a power surge, and all the--oh, wait, the lights just came back on. Here, I'll get the door."

Lori blinked and tried to get the spots to fade as the entire wall in front of her suddenly moved. She struggled to make sense of what she was seeing at first--a vast open area, with vague machine-like shapes towering overhead, and in the foreground, two massive towers that looked like enormous legs, rising out of equally enormous tennis shoes that stood before her like small cars.

She started looking up, and up...and UP...even as the gigantic figure of Marissa knelt down, mouth open wide in shock at the sight of her miniature friend standing before her, now no bigger than a doll...
