Description Since it's my off-time right now (finals...need I say more?) I figure I'll post up a piece I completed last fall.

Did this in Copic marker based on my uncle's photography (he's a bird watcher and has some sweet-ass cameras that I totally want to nab )

[link]

When I was near completion though, my B32 copic marker started to run dry - the FIRST and most inconvenient of time in the 3 years I've had those bloody things! I had to improvise by choosing a darker shade of blue and was almost certain that this piece was anything, but salvageable. Alright, so I was a bit over-dramatic sounding there, but for any artist who runs into these said problems, this is a nightmare from hell!

Looking back at it now, I'm happy to say that it was good that I chose a darker shade - it really makes the bird stand out.

Amongst my journal blogs I will be posting about tablets, I plan to also do one on Copic Markers too. At first glance, Copic only seems to ever be used for anime (nothing wrong with that, I love anime too ) but I want to show people that these amazing markers are capable of many other things besides.

I will be doing more animal pieces - I find more and more that birds seem to be one of my favorites these days (the only bird who is an exception is the sea gull - hate those things!..oh yes, and pigeons can be annoying too). Stick around for more. I'll be doing more of them (including a Great Horned Owl)

~~~
Tools Used:
Copic Original / Sketch markers
Canon paper
Copic Ink Pens 0.03 & 0.05
Matte Vignette created in Photoshop CS4 - cuz I suck and have no money to buy proper framing material.
This looks wonderful! I absolutely love chickadees to begin with and the coloring is great! I'm very impressed with the feathers.
It is nice indeed to see copic work outside of anime/manga! Keep up the great work
Hey, thanks - yeah, it was quite a breakthrough- my first attempt at realism using copics. I'm still trying to find some good paper that reacts with copics - the paper usually bleeds. (has to do more research on that).
Chickadees are such cute pudgy birds one of my faves too.
Thank you!
Ah, yes. Finding good paper is difficult! I haven't done a whole picture on it, but if you can find some Deleter comic book paper you might give that a try. I've played around on it a bit and it seems good!
So plump and cute >3<
You are most welcome!!
this is just amazing. Yeah I did a pheonix with copics and omg I just love copics. So amazing what you can do with them. I love how realistic this looks, and yes, the dark blue really adds contrast to the peice.
I really like how you did the wings. A lot of people just do feathers two demensionally which is wrong because feathers have form to them, and you pulled that off nicely.
Great job
Photographs help a lot! I have so many books on different animals it's not even funny. Often I'll spend time photographing my garden and it's inhabitants (like the goldenrod spider) for hours. Speaking of which I should upload those photos^^
YES! I LOVE your goldenrod spider! I was so amazed at the quality of that photo! The clarity, the focal length, and the lighting were just astounding! Please upload that!
Thank you for the lovely critique
