Charles Buchanan had never wanted for anything in life. Not after he got a starring role as a swash-buckling rogue in the last Zorro pic. After that is was Robin Hoods, King Arthurs, Tarzans and Blackbeards. The pirate flicks he loved most of all. To be a dashing ne’er-do-well was the highlight of his career. He carried it into real life as he flirted with starlets and schmoozed with big-shots. He sipped martinis and smoked Cubans. He had everything money could buy and more. Then war hit. For Buchanan, all that truly meant was a new kind of picture to star in. War flicks paid the bills. Until his mother phoned him in the spring of ’43. She’d got a letter. Charles’ kid brother Jimmy had signed up a year before and had been dispatched to the frontlines. And now he was MIA. Suddenly nothing else mattered. Life was pointless. Jimmy was most likely dead, having gone down a hero, and here Charles was, making a quick buck off the back of the tragedy. When he was asked to visit the boys on the frontline to lift their spirits, Charles went without reservation. And he took an old movie costume with him. He was going to find out what really happened to Jimmy one way or the other. And if he needed to take down a few Krauts on the way, so help him God, he was going do it in style.
