Roger Travers was a chemist by trade. His latest breakthrough was a super drug that, when boiled to a vapour and ingested, would allow a person to grow to peak physical fitness and, his research showed, would also gain access to heightened sense Man does not currently possess. The company he worked for paid for him to take an all-expenses-paid yacht trip to Berlin to then present at a science fair there. En-route however, his vessel was attacked by pirates and dashed just off the coast of a small desert island. As the ship was going down, Roger, fearing for his life and believing there was no way he could make it to land, ignited his miracle liquid and ingested the fumes. Now, with a body at the pinnacle of human perfect, Roger swan through the vast and turbulent waters to the island shore. But the pirates weren’t finished with him. Seeing him flee, they pursued. For these pirates were not what they seemed. They were industrial saboteurs, hired by Travers’ own sponsors. Knowing his morals would lead him to use his latest discovery for humanity’s betterment over seeking financial gains for his patrons, they decided to remove him from the picture. The pirates were supposed to capture the chemical before the ship went down. They had not counted on Roger taking it himself. Their only chance to recover it, was to find Travers and torture him into revealing the secrets of the compound. But the marauders were not prepared for the new man Roger Travers had become. When the pirates landed on shore, he single-handedly defeated them with stealth and ease. Seizing their own boat, he returned to America and enacted his revenge. Equipped with unparalleled strength, speed, stamina, and the unearthly ability to sense if a person’s soul is filled with light or dark, Travers lives in the shadows, cloaked by night, he fights the forces of evil as the dread Black Skull.
