If you're wondering what that thing is that Layton is holding, allow me to explain.See, I have this YouTube channel (whihc I'm sure some of you know by now) where I select VGM and put them in a "Golden VGM List" which is basically my list of my favourite VGM. Plenty of other YouTubers have done this sorta thing already, so i threw in my two cents with this list.

Anyway, when I reach a hundred number, I tend to celebrate the occasion by drawing a picture for the game whose music made it into that particular number. And in this case, I put Professor Layton and the Unwound Future at #300.
So the thing Layton is holding is actually a trophy I made to represent the game's victory in being one of my personal favourites.

I love the shading I did here. It is a mix of cel shading and gradient shading. I think I'll use this technique from now on within my drawings.

I love this picture a lot o: Each character has their individual expression and I like the concept of this picture as well. On top of that the coloring and shading turned out absolutely well here. Even though there are many details in the background Layton doesn't "vanish" in them, but he also still looks in place and not as if he was glued to the picture. In my opinion doing that is quite a challenge but you definitely pulled that off!

Well I did all this in Photoshop.
I trace over the outlines of the scanned pencil picture with a brush in the 'M' category.
On several layers underneath, I colour the areas with flat colours.
On layers above the flat colours, I use another brush in the 'M' category as a Mixer Brush and set the quality of the brush to "Moist". I then proceed to shade the images in the style of cel shading (draw arrows on another layer first to indicate where the light source is shining on the characters / objects) as well as light them (in this picture in particular, the shadows and lighting are on the same layers)
Then on layers underneath the cel shading, but still above the flat colours, I use the Lasso tool and draw around the cel-shaded areas (not over the edges, just around them in some sort of shape) and then use the Gradient tool with one colour set on a flat colour from one of the surfaces, and the other colour set to the colour of the shadows / lights. I set the opacity to these layers to around 60%.
