The legendary and beautiful Greek monster... Medusa the Gorgon.
Transformed into a snake-like creature by a jealous Athena and later beheaded by Perseus. It is said that it is her head adorned in the Aegis shield. Other legend says the head carved on it is just a generic Gorgon head, as the beast is a symbol of protection.

In Fate/Stay Night, Medusa was summoned under the Rider-class and was supposed to serve Sakura Matou but was more associated with her demented, psychotic, Rin-obsessed brother, Shinji Matou.

Now, in the SanctuaryVerse, Medusa was revived. She lives in Greece and was protecting the Aegis shield, an ancient treasure of the Gods and symbol of Protection against evil and producing a roar similar to a thousand of dragons. The Aegis is in fact a precursor of the Ark of the Covenant as it is both an offensive and defensive weapon. It protect its wielder and struck fear to his ennemies.
She encounter Izmia when the Catdragon was visiting Athene.

Izmia found the secret tunnels below the Parthenon and discovered the Aegis' resting place. Knowing the Aegis to be a fearsome weapon, she carefully touched it and hope that, unlike the Ark in the Bible, the shield won't zapped her with powerful thunderbolt immediately. Instead, the fiery shield adorning the Medusa head and snakes emitted a powerful roar of approval and shone brightely.

Medusa emerged from her hidding place, saying that Izmia is the rightful owner of the Aegis shield. Since then, Medusa followed the Cat-Dragon in her adventures and joined the Sanctuary. Medusa put powerful enchantement in the Aegis shield's chamber inside the Level 3 of the Vault.
