Elvis Costello is one of my favorite performers. The whole nervous stage persona, nerd chic cool, Buddy Holly meets The Clash vibe of his music really appeals to me. Some people are turned off by him and find his music hard to approach for fear that they are missing some inside joke. I don't see it that way at all. Elvis Costello had a unique, modern sound, part punk and new wave with pop sensibility rooted in the best of British invasion era rock and roll. Even today he has managed to maintain his edge and continues to matter to music.
I really enjoyed doing this piece. Normally I would have inked over my pencils but I liked how it looked this way too much to risk ruining it with ink. I hope you like it.
*I tried to change the picture here and make a better scan of it. Still not sure about the final version but I think it is better than the first.
