Description WELP. Here we go! New stamp alert. And it might be a bit of a doozy.

First of all, I want to address that this is NOT a hate stamp. The only way I could EVER hate a character is if they've done something awful. Like despicable levels of awful Like Vriska Serket. And Yellow has done nothing that warrants that. I just think she's a bit of an overrated character in Pokemon Adventures / Pokemon Special / PokeSpe fandom.

So why don't I like Yellow that much? Why did I make this stamp in the first place? I'm glad you asked!

Yellow to me represents a lot of wasted potential. I found her introductory arc to be really, really boring. And I feel as if her character development is really flat.

I also find her 'Viridian Forest Powers' to be a bit nonsensical?? Like I have no problems at all with psychic powers being elaborated on in the manga; especially considering that in the game's universe people can indeed have psychic powers! But the ability to send your Pokemon's levels into the 80's without practicing battling much is just waaaaay too OP to me. Especially when we see all the other characters training when they want to make their teams stronger.

So here's a stamp for those of us in the fandom who aren't fond of Yellow?

something tells me I'm going to get a lot of hate for this
wait until you guys see the one I'm making for Green tho

The Yellow arc was very boring and slow.  At least when the story focused on Yellow.  Watching her be a pacifist took the fun out of things.  That was not what drew me into this manga series.

Her powers make no sense, one of them is too OP, and they are not explained well.  And fans are absolutely fine with no explanation whatsoever...

Can't wait to see your Green stamp.  Hope you point out how much of as ass he is to another comrade of his...

EXACTLY!! THANK YOU!! I remember reading the first two arcs or adventures as a kid, and as much as I adored the RGB arc; I was hella confused with the Yellow arc. Just. So much stuff left unexplained. As for the pacifist behavior, I think it could work, but it would have to be showed in a different way. Like maybe Kusaka could reference the Pokemon Stadium minigames and Yellow challenges others to weird bets or something??? I think an attitude like that could be an interesting diverging plot point, but due to the Yellow arc still being in the series' infancy; we had it shown to us terribly... ((at least it was shown alright in the RS arc with Ruby though))

the Green stamp will probably just focus on how much of a boring character. Like the only redeeming feature of him I can think of is interactions and slight character development with Silver. Otherwise that's about it.

The RBG arc was great!  We were given a more mature, somewhat darker take on the Pokemon series.  Both humans and Pokemon were vulnerable to brutal moments.  Even Red managed to break the Shonen hero stereotype that the main hero needs to be an idiot and oblivious to women.

However, when we got the Yellow arc, it took away what we drew us into the series in the first place.  It's almost as if parents complained about what their children were reading and demanded something more "kid-friendly"... or something like that...  So, in this sequel arc, we got a story not focused on the Kanto trio and what was basically a pacifist run of Pokemon game.

The pacing was slow and the story was dull, when focused on Yellow.  Basically "Mario Is Missing" in a nutshell.

Mm, okay.  Was hoping to see Green's treatment of Blue addressed.

The RGB arc is still to this day my second or third favorite arc of the manga.
As fantastic as it was though it'll be hard for any Pokemon Adventures arc to top the Diamond and Pearl one as numero uno for me.

And I never thought of the Yellow arc like that before?? It makes sense, but I still sort of think its sub-par writing is due to Kusaka still trying to figure out how the heck the manga worked when the Yellow version of the game was literally the exact same story line, and he basically just went: "how the heck can I work my manga magic a seconf time without repeating myself???" So he just decided to make it as different from the original first arc as possible. Anything could be the reason though!

Also omfg "Mario is Missing" XD. I don't know why but the comparison to that with the Yellow arc is hysterical to me.

I do agree with you on that and I probably will bring it up. But honestly Green is so bland and predictable as a character that it doesn't bother me too much?? If anything the fact that the "pesky woman" joke hasn't died yet is more obnoxious than anything else

OK!

Seeing as Yellow Version was based off of the anime, Kusaka could've incorporated elements from the anime.  Clothes changes, updated parties, and introducing anime exclusive characters; namely Jessie and James.

But it's accurate, is it not?

YOOOOOO. Jessie and James in the manga would be amazing! Like they could still be goofy like they are in anime canon, but we could take them more seriously because they'd be subjected to Kusaka's somewhat more serious writing style. Let this be known that someday, I don't know when, but I'll attempt to include them in a Pokemon Adventures fic one day. This idea is too awesome to pass up honestly.

It really is accurate. XD

Either way you look at it though, Green is still just a seriously boring character who can be borderline awful due to his rude, stuck up treatment of some of the other characters

I might do an AU myself.

Indeed.  That's why Old Rival is boring.  It's like dating a cardboard cutout that ignores you.

AUs are great tbh. Although a lot of my AUs would tick off a lot of fans as they're mostly comprised of what if situations that entail dexholder replacements. Like Wally being Emerald. And Hugh being named "Two" with Black & White being redesigned to fit the BW2 player characters.

You've summed up Oldrivalshipping better than I ever could. Here you go take this trophy for your victory:

I wouldn't mind Wally being Emerald, as he should've been.  Or the B2W2 players being purposely named after their predecessors.  Or at the very least, give Yellow a brown haired boy rival, who has an Eevee.

Thank you~

A rival for Yellow is also a really interesting idea?? Maybe said rival could allow her pacifism to be challenged?? Or maybe her rival is more peaceful than she is and she has to inspire the rival to fight or Team Rocket will ruin everything all over again

And you're welcome!!
