Description The oldest Vauxhall Cavalier in the world, this car was the original press release vehicle unleashed onto the road critics in 1975, and later the public at large.

One of the many treasured Vauxhall family cars, and the final generation of an icon, the last of the Cavaliers, although not as common as it was, is still regarded as one of the better products from this General Motors subsidiary.

The original Cavalier was the first product to begin the General Motors trend of having Opel cars be badge engineered for the UK market as Vauxhalls. In previous instances, Vauxhall developed their own models, as did Opel, but as part of the company's rationalisation of the range, this move to make singular models was done instead. As such, what was known as the Opel Ascona in the European market, was badged the Vauxhall Cavalier in the UK.

The final model of the Cavalier began production in 1988, but was known in Europe as the Opel Vectra. Vauxhall maintained the Cavalier name as the company feared the Vectra would sound too close to the previous Vauxhall Victor, a car that suffered heavy malignment. The Vauxhall Cavalier included long sweeping headlights and an englarged interior, sporting also a new range of engines from a 1.4L Petrol engine to a 2.0iL turbo engine producing 130hp.

The Cavalier name was continued until 1995 when the car was eventually called the Vectra. This bodystyle was replaced into a similarly principled but largely different 90's look. Today these Cavaliers are the most abundant of the range, and you'll probably find more of these still on the road than the old Cavaliers of the 70's and 80's.
