Description
A view towards New York City from the Brooklyn side as a low smog drowns out the lower structures in a pollutant haze.

The mist effect I created by finishing the colour work and then smudging to give a distorted effect, increasing the smudging towards the bottom of the skyscrapers and the top of the lower buildings.

Believe it or not, but this came as a dream to me when I was about 8 years old!

I remember it absolutely vividly, a scene of an abandoned city as seen from afar by a group of weary travelers who had never so much as glimpsed an urban area. Seen from the top of a distant hill, the peaceful monoliths of a downtown city humans once called Manhattan.

I was a pretentious kid back in the day, but I do recall the feeling of peace and tranquility as my mind's eye gazed over this barren landscape of empty buildings. I can't recall the reason why New York had been abandoned, but it couldn't have been a nuclear fallout or war because, as you can see, everything's still standing. It had something of a 'Night of the Comet' vibe to it, where spontaneously every human being disappeared aside from a select few, who now roam this empty planet and must start afresh on a barren world.

Again, just a silly thing, but a dream I do hold very close to my heart, and something I sometimes recollect from time to time, like the other day for instance!
