Bahaha, I actually finished this one a couple of days ago, just never uploaded it. I think my favorite thing about manipulating is turning a subject into something totally different; like I had an extreme varnish roan type reference to use for this character. Β Part of me wishes I would'a used a different horse to display those pretty markings more, but I dont feel like a different horse would do this character any more justice than the one I chose.Β

Pretty much! haha. I'm thinking about doing a new tutorial for spots/extreme color changing since people seem to think it's incredibly hard. It's only hard when you don't understand what youre doing! (as well as update my mane/tail tut, since the one I have uploaded is a little dated compared to my new stuff.)

ooo yes that would be amazing. changing a darker color to white is the hardest for me. D: but i'm sure i'm just not using the right/easiest method.

There's multiple different methods, I use a mixture of curves, desaturation, and exposure, as well as the overlay option with a clipped masked layor above the oirignal horse. What a lot of people don't realize is white is really reflective and picks up the hues around the horse (hence why this one sort of looks blue/has blue undertones). The hardest thing for me is to match a (mostly) white horse with white markings the chosen horse might already have. So i usually have to do a lot of painting -- i dont bother with the clone and/or healing tool unless Im reconstructing/rebuilding a horse. The horse I used for the pintaloosa I uploaded yesterday had a white blaze. I'm -very- surprised it didn't give me more issues than I thought it would. If you look close enough you can still faintly see it, but at a smaller resolution it's virtually invisible. I think my favorite color changes so far areΒ iamnixty.deviantart.com/art/Thβ¦ andΒ iamnixty.deviantart.com/art/Thβ¦

see i never use curves or exposure so that's probably making it a lot harder xD OMG YOU DIDN'T USE ANY CLONE STAMPING? jeeze that's hardcore xD
