book cover 1 of 4(so far) for the Haunting of Derek Stone, a new young-adult mystery series being put out by scholastic books.just found this in borders the other day and it made my week. i owe a big thanks to my alma matter, UArts, for setting up the portfolio day that got me this amazing job. hope you guys like it, i'll be posting the next three as soon as i get the finished versions with type etc.

that made my day too! beautiful, effective art finding its way out to the world on book covers. i'm a fan of the scratched, tilted look, balanced by the symmetry of the architecture. great colours, too; blue and yellow really provide a subtle contrast to the stark black of the gates.

thanks very much! it's way more saturated than i usually like to go with my colors, but i think it fits the subject. plus it's for the kiddies.

hey man thats awesome. What do you go through to get jobs like this? Imean besides having a portfolio, do you apply to commission for publishers or what?

i actually just got really lucky with this one. my senior year uarts set up a portfolio day where we invited a bunch of art directors and i guess my stuff got seen by the right person. i don't actually know wat to do to get more work like this!

ha! real illustration jobs. i hope this doesn't make me sound like a dick, but it's sooo nice working with bigger companies! the whole process moves so much more smoothly and my art director was actually really helpful! he gave me revisions that actually HELPED the piece...that's a pretty rare experience for me
