one thing is to see the mistakes and another thing is to be able to correct them hahahaha, but yes, I get the point..the thing is that I should draw more..I mostly doodle...doodle is fun, but not too instructive..

I know it's a difficult thing, but my advice is just to try not to worry too much about it. I always found it's kind of counterproductive to dwell on where you are now, when you could be focusing on where you could be tomorrow. If there's ever anything you need help with correcting, that maybe you don't know how to do, just ask me and I'll do my best to help you out in any way that I can. I'll do my best to point things out as they come to me. Don't ever feel though that because I'm criticizing something, that I don't like your work though. I do like a lot of your ideas, and you're really on the right path. I just want to push you to do better because I can see what you could be capable of doing.

you're very wise, you know? I'll try to draw and upload more..but most of all I'll try to actually STUDY PROPORTIONS, faces and traditional art in general..comics are fun, but to draw a good stilyzide comic, one has to have in mind how the actual structure works underneath..soooooo traditional portraits on the way (as soon as I'll have time..I'm quite slow when I don't doodle my silly things)
See you Captain..here in Italy in 5 a.m. and if I don't rush to bed NOW, tomorrow (today) I'll probably die (my alarm clock is set to 7:00 gaaaaa...see you!

Hahaha thank you very much! I love that paper..it gives an "ancient effect"
..if you're interested, the name of the paper is "Carta da Spolvero" (or at least in italian)..but I think it's almost the same paper you use for your drawings..it has pretty much the same colour...
thank you again for the attention

Very important - before proposing marriage to that beautiful girl, meet her mother!
This is fully dimensional, with shading, texture and emotional expression. Composition isn't bad, as the kerchief circulates the eye through through what is otherwise dead (inactive) space and brings it around the face.
More like this!

hahahaha what a professional comment! Thank you!
I will do more drawings like this (when I'll have time)..
I kind of feel bad for all the compliments I got on this piece, because I tryed to copy a picture, but my drawing really doesn't look like the person I was copying...

I speak from experience! (LOL)
Copying is good practice! Everyone does it. Avoid getting addicted to it, because it can ruin you later by interfering with drawing from imagination. It marks an intermediary level of development which is followed by a difficult leap. That transition can be so difficult and frustrating that many never take it. They remain copiers for the balance of their careers.
I don't think YOU have that problem - not with your sense of humor. You will never be satisfied unless expressing what's in your imagination.

you pretty much got me, you know? My problem is quite the opposite..I can draw by immagination, but not really from copying..the thing is that (I don't know why) I've almost never copyed anything in my life..when I was little I thought that copying was like cheating..(silly me) and because of that I always only drew things I invented..
I'm starting to relize only now that "if you don't copy you don't quite get better"..soooo that's my story

Sol-Caninus In reply to TheAcciuga [2014-01-09 16:14:01 +0000 UTC]
The good part of that is you developed your faculty for composition and expression. The bad part is that without copying, there is no way to check your technical ability. But, believe me, you nurtured the harder of the two.
Technical ability is simply a matter of study and practice. There is nothing mysterious about it. The practice is straight forward and the results come quickly. Not so for learning composition - which one doesn't really learn. (It comes, or it doesn't. One sees it, or does not.) Many excellent technicians have no sense for good composition.
