Description 06/2010 Pencils on Blue Line Pro smooth

This is my first attempt at Silver Surfer or Galactus. Practicing the 'metallic' look while playing with shape and form.

Taking this tomorrow's con with some of my other work for review this year. Hoping to get some tips from the pros.

Thank you for the compliment! I look at this now and see so many things I could do better, more dynamically. But it's nice to know its still a fav!

ItΒ΄s soooo clean!
Your lines are perfect. But I suggest you to work in the anatomy first, then, everything else will appear by its own.
Beautiful art.

Nice work. The hand on Silver Surfer could use some work, but overall a really good piece. I'm impressed.

Which hand, the front or the back? Or both? If I know which one, I may be able to fix it in the inking stage. Thank you for your honesty and for the compliment....and the watch...and the fav!

Front hand, but no worries, I too fix my pages during the inking process. I look forward to seeing the final inks.

Well, one of these days, it will be inked! Right now my inker is writing like a fiend and I have too many projects since this start of this weekend to think of anything other than penciling more work. We'll see!

Ah, the responsibilities of being a penciler. You don't ink your own stuff? Oh well, I look forward to seeing some new stuff in the near future.

Hid that last comment, mostly because it was mine and was not meant for everybody, just my pal NJ. Sorry for that!

Insane pencil work. The Moon and Planet details are awesome! What type of pencils do you use...if you don't mind me asking?

Everybody's talking pencils this week, that's so cool! I started out using mechanicals in all different sizes, but my work looked too static, so I moved on to a lead holder pencil. I'm currently doing blue line with two different type of pencils for my underdrawing, one in the lead holder (it comes out lighter) and the second to tighten up with a #.07 mechanical pencil. Then I use a B or 2B lead in a lead holder. My favorite brand of leadholder is the "Ben" 10, has less spring to it than the staedler that I use for the blue line.

Ah very interesting. You just reminded me that I need some 2.0mm blue leads for my lead holder. Also where do you buy your B/2B leads for a lead holder?

I get my lead from local arts stores mostly, but in a pinch (like today) I went to a retail store, Pearls. They sell online as well.

Tnx! I think I'm going to be reading Silver Surfer this week, along with Infiniti Gauntlet and the more recent Illuminati series. Should be interesting.
