Description Name: Embyrn (Em - BURN) Galewings
Sex: Female
Age: Young adult
Height: 5'1" at the shoulder
Length: 24 feet (roughly 10 ft snout to rump, and 14 ft tail)
Wingspan: 50 feet (each wing is slightly longer than her whole body, including tail)

Hey guys, look who I drew! (Alternatively: I'm on a roll! Whee!)

Say hello to the new, the improved, the hardly-changed-since-2008--Embyrn! Tbh I still like her old ref sheet (can be found at: theantimonyelement.deviantart.… ) but it's been six years and gosh darn it she deserves a new one. This one is slightly more accurate to her body type and proportions, although in my boyfriend's opinion, the top one "looks like Embyrn's evil twin," and "Embyrn can be badass, but in a goofy way." Thanks, bf. So for now think of that top dragon as EmBWAHAHA, Embyrn's evil twin and badass extraordinaire (at least until I fuss with it in a way that makes me happy)

Eh, I'm not totally satisfied with this thing, but I love how flying Embyrn and the top/bottom views came out, and I have spent FAR too much time on it during the last few days, so I'm calling it done. I used gradients excessively, in the misguided hope that it might be "easy" and "fun" and "have a cool effect," but now I've just decided that Photoshop is an amazing tool since it can deal with 500 teensy layers without dying too often and that gradients take too. darn. long. Anyway. Blah. Like I said, not completely satisfied, but it was a learning experience and I just LOVE how her wingfeathers came out on the big model.

Love love love! TAE out

Aww, thank you! Originally (like, a long time ago lol...she's been around for a while ) she just had regular feathered wings but the design never felt quite right. I wanted to find some way to meld the more dragon-like wing design with her feathers, and this just seemed to make the most sense. Plus, it's really fun to draw!

Thank you so much! It took me a long time to settle on a design for her, but I'm really happy with the outcome.

Vertebrates are tetrapods, not hexapods.
The wings are nothing else than transformed upper limbs due to evolution, not an additional 3rd pair of limbs.

I bet you're fun at parties. Really, though...that's what makes fantasy so fun, trying to create realistic or compelling designs for creatures that can't exist on Earth. What's to say that vertebral animals with six limbs couldn't develop elsewhere in the cosmos? Fun to think about.

I have to say that you are the only person I've seen so far that has used red and blue together effectively in a design with that much intensity to the color, so bravo to you! Also the design is really unique, I can't say I've seen another wholly like it. I also like how you used flat colors for the main picture and the top/bottom views, it just looks good in general. ^^
I'm reminded I have to re-draw my own reference sheets... again

Oh wow, thank you so much! I'm really happy that you think the colors work well together...I really love the red/blue/yellow combination but it can be overbearing so I tried to balance it as much as possible in her design.

You're very welcome! ^^ You certainly succeeded It reminds me of the Scarlet Macaw ^^ (these guys! cdn2.arkive.org/media/81/8187D… )

Oh my gosh, I am SO thrilled that you said that!!! Actually, Embyrn's color patterns *were* sort of inspired by the scarlet macaw (one of my fav birds). I wanted her to be similarly flashy and colorful. It's so cool that you noticed!

I'm glad I could guess that! Macaws are such beautiful birds, it was such a treat to be able to hold one too when I was on a family vacation one year. It's hard to miss a macaw-inspired dragon with those flashy colors
