Description Viviane, the Lady of the Lake, sits with the priestess Morgaine and prepares to present Arthur with Excalibur, the sword of the Holy Regalia of the Isle of Avalon.

Yeah, I read too much. But anyway, this picture was inspired by Marion Zimmer Bradley's The Mists of Avalon. I heart this book SO much! (Its also where my middle name came from! Yeah, my parents are interesting people! YAY!) I tried a few different techniques here and I think it worked out fairly well.

OMG Marion Zimmer Bradley is my All time Favorite Author. I've read and reread that whole series. but Mist is the best. Have you read her take on Helen of Troy. If not you really should!!! LOVE your work

I love the way that you put this piece together. I have read Mists of Avalon so many times. This captures the feel of that book very well. I love the blues in the dress and how the sword seems to glow with a light from within. Very well done.

Thank you so much!!! It means so much to me that someone else familiar with the book finds this piece true to it. And thank you so much for the !

first western, then gypsy, and now arthurian legends with a dash of paganism? If I weren't already married I'd have to propose lol. A talented artist as well as beautiful model. I'm impressed. Great job Which btw.. never read the book but I do own that movie and love it. I collect everything I can on Arthurian Legends. They inspired much of my childhood as now I collect swords lol. Currently reading the Penddragon Cycle now if I can find book two which is Merlin. May I suggest another good read to you while I have you here.... The Kushiel series by Jacqueline Carey. They have nothing to with Arthurian Legends but they are filled with adventure laced with old world charm , gypsies and a sweet medley of magick and romaticism. Yes I'm a geek in a Stetson lol

Ah, you pain me with the filth that was the movie! It was an abomination of the book! Do yourself a favour and read it. Its long but it is so much better than the movie. But then again, I am an Arthurian snob, heh. My father as recommended the Pendragon cycle to me in the past that I just haven't gotten around to reading yet. And the Kushiel series I actually think my brother was reading at some point I'm not sure. I'll look into them. I have a huge ass reading list already though!

Most movies are abominations compared to the books, I agree with you perfectly..perfect example as well would be Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles and the movies made there of. But in Arthurian Legends I have encountered one where the book and movie were equal.. Excaliber...the british version from the early eighties/late seventies. Of course they stayed true to Malory's "Morte d'Arthur". But as far as Mist Of Avalon, will check out the book. Thanks.

Hmm...well...I'm not sure if I agree with you. If we are discussing the same Excalibur, that happens to be one of my parent's favourite movies, then it can't possibly be true to "Le Morte D'Arthur" because Morgan was not the sister who slept with Arthur and birthed Mordred, Morgause was. Regardless, Excalibur is still an excellent movie and most certainly on the top of Arthurian legend movies.

Aw! you could probably do something like this is Photoshop. Actually I think that's what most photomanippers use, I'm the odd ball out. Practice really does make perfect! ^.^

Probably, but I have troubles T.T esp. with my laptop *kicks laptop, which promptly obliges by dying. Again...*

Photomanip eh? Don't think I've ever tried that. I just paint perdy pictures...(not!)

In response to your sig, I like you just fine!

Your name really eddie?

Lol, that's what this picture is actually, a photomanip. I can't paint for the life of me. I've been trying to do more of it lately though.

LOL! No, its a quote from a television show called "Keen Eddie". Its like his catch phrase. But I'm glad you like me!

I doubt I could find my tv

It looks like a very realistic painting. I only do cg's/paintings, so I have really no idea how one would even START a photomanip.

i forgot where I found you now though....Heh

Manips aren't that hard! I started just by taking a few pictures and pasting them together, then using a few random tools to finish it off! I really wish I was better at painting on my own though! Sometimes you just can't find the pictures you need!

Lol, that's cool! I'm around in a few places, so you probably just stumbled upon me accidentally!

This is really ice, but it's so dark, that it takes away from the piece.
It doesnt command you to view it, like it should...and would If the lighting was done a little bit better.

But overall i really like the concept and it's really nice.

Aw, well thank you for the constructive criticism, I appreciate it! I went so dark with it because I was really trying to go for a cave-like feel...actually I think the first version I posted was lighter but I changed it...Either way, I'll keep that in mind for my next deviation! Thanks!

lindowyn-stock [2006-11-21 03:25:41 +0000 UTC]

oooooo. This came out much darker than I thought it would be. I really love the expression on Morgaine, and the sort of apprehensive "So...if it comes through this door, should I stab it, or surrender...?" on Viviane. I think that maybe, if anything, Viviane's face could be a little lighter, but I love how the darkness brings out the texture in the dress, and I think I see a lightsource off to the left side there. Prettyful!

TheArcher777 In reply to lindowyn-stock [2006-11-21 03:34:27 +0000 UTC]

Hehe, aw. Origianally it wasn't going to be as dark, but I thought it would help blend it more. And the lightsource is on purpose, because there's a torch hanging out there on the inside of the door! Thanks for the !
