Description Jacob Marley's journey began in the bustling streets of Londontown, born into a family of moderate means. His parents, a clerk at a shipping firm and a seamstress, instilled in him a strong work ethic and financial acumen from a young age. Despite his modest background, Jacob's childhood was marked by a blend of assisting his father with bookkeeping and engaging in street games that honed his observational and numerical skills.

As he grew, Jacob's street smarts evolved into a profound understanding of economics and trade. He managed to secure a place at the Londontown Mercantile Academy, a respected institution that further refined his skills and set the stage for his future success. While his methods might have been unconventional, Jacob excelled in complex financial transactions, outpacing his peers.

Post-graduation, Jacob secured an internship at Fezziwig's Counting-House, a prestigious financial establishment. His unconventional work ethic caught the attention of Mr. Fezziwig, leading to a full-time position. It was here that Jacob formed a symbiotic friendship with Ebenezer Scrooge, a fellow graduate from the academy.

The duo's friendship deepened, and Jacob played a pivotal role in introducing Ebenezer to Belle, with whom he entered into a romantic relationship. However, Belle's departure left Ebenezer in deep despair. To distract his friend, Jacob delved into high-stakes investments, which unfortunately failed, jeopardizing their standing at Fezziwig's.

In a moment of desperation, Jacob encountered a witch in a pub, who offered him financial success in exchange for his soul. Inebriated and distressed, Jacob agreed, setting a dark course for his future. The next day, instead of facing the consequences of failed investments, Jacob and Ebenezer learned of Mr. Fezziwig's death and their unexpected inheritance of the fortune and company.

Decades passed with Marley and Scrooge rising to the heights of Londontown's society and industry. However, Marley's turning point came with the death of Mr. Fezziwig. Free from the pact with the witch, Marley could have moved on. Still, he found himself tethered to the material wealth he accumulated throughout his life, preventing him from crossing over.

Enter Gollum, the previous Grim Reaper, who sought to end Marley's misery. Through a holiday ritual involving Scrooge, Marley's curse was broken when Scrooge spent the fortune to undo past wrongs and fund charitable causes. Liberated, Marley faced a choice: move on or become one of Gollum's Ankou, granting him immortality in exchange for service.

With the popularity of "A Christmas Carol," Marley semi-came back to life, working with Santa's Workshop to perform the Christmas Carol ritual on individuals resembling his old friend Scrooge. Leading the Christmas Carol Department, he also served as an Ankou under the current Grim Reaper, Bill D. William.
